Hey, Mini! Happy new year to you too!

And I would like to extend a somewhat belated thanks to the squirrel for my new avatar, which I just discovered over the weekend.

It doesn't appear to be one, and AFAIK, "Butch's" is not based on any real life establishment.

I was also curious as to why I had the not-yet-squashed hamster in my pocket, as that prop might have been more suitable for Sir G. But those are quibbles; I acknowledge the creative genius of Evil Squirrel.

Quick question:

Am I allowed to register? Or is there a mandatory wait before I can try for Jeopardy?

You can register and take the test - if there's an issue about your eligibility (time period between game show appearances) the contestant coordinator can resolve that. Plus it may be a while before you get selected - IIRC the contestant pool is good for up to 18 months, so your eligibility wouldn't be an issue after a certain point.

IIRC (and if my search of some old posts is correct) the 2008 Jeopardy online test started on January 30. Does this make everyone who took it last year ineligible to take it again because we're a couple days short of the 12-month rule?

I'm going to take it since I had that weather-related problem last year.

As I understand the eligibility rules, if you took it last January but did not get an in-person audition, you should take the test again. If you took it last year and attended one of the in-person sessions, you should not, as you remain in the contestant pool.

The rules now explicity state exactly that.

I took the online test in January 2007 then attended an in-person audition in June 2007. Although I'm still technically in the pool (Trevormacfee, for example, got "the call" 21 months after his in-person audition), I'm also eligible to take the upcoming online test but wasn't eligible for last year's online test.

And I did confirm just before I served as one of clem's lifelines that being a lifeline definitely does NOT trigger the one year waiting period to appear on the show. J! does NOT consider that an appearance on a game show for eligibility purposes.

You won't be eligibile to appear on J! within one year of your WWTBAM air date. Since the eligibility period will extend long past that date, I think you should just take the online test. If they call you for an air date before the one year period, you can deal with it then.

I signed up for the test (again).

They are going to:

NYC
LA
Charlotte NC
Kansas City MO
Chicago (which I signed up for)
Seattle
DC
Boston

There may be a couple more I can't remember right now.

It says on the registration page that you can take the test for FUN if you aren't currently eligible to be a contestant. I'm not sure who would call taking a very hard 50 question test fun-only nutty people like us!

Good luck to all test takers!
I'm just a game show nerd.

They don't guarantee that they will go to all of these cities, though.

Not from me. I can usually walk to their audition site. :)

My mom just got an email that says: "Do you have a 10-to-12-year-old Jeopardy! fan in the house?" An online test for 10- to 12-year-olds will be given on Jan. 13.

I am a Jeopardy! fan within the correct age range. I have read the rules, and they don't seem to exclude four-footers. Do you think they would rule me out because I've already graduated from Home School High School?

Annie,

Before you apply, shouldn't you practice with a buzzer?

I'm just sayin...
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That is a good point, Mr. Rexer, and I have been thinking about it. Since I don't have one of those useful thumbs, I'm thinking I could hold the buzzer between my front paws and hit it with my nose. My nose is very useful.

I will ask my mom if I can borrow one of her special Jeopardy! ball point pens for practicing. I hope I can remember always to hold it button side up, because point side up might hurt.

Annie,

I don't see any cities close by to your house. The nearest testing location is over five hours away from your house. Your mom would be very tired from driving that far each way. How would you get there?

I shall, if they decide not to come to Boston. I don't think it likely, though, that they won't get enough passers from the region, IMO the only reason they wouldn't come to any of the above-mentioned cities.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Why I Love This Bored:

As of this posting, nothing has yet shown up on the J! board regarding this subject (at least, as far as I can see, which isn't saying much).

Of course, the J! boardies likely already know anyhow...
