Mulligan wasn't a prolific director, with only about twenty feature film credits in a 30+ year career. Besides Mockingbird, which got him his only Oscar nomination, he did a number of good melodramas during the 60's and the coming-of-age drama Summer of '42 in which the hero got to live out a lot of young men's fantasies (including mine) of going to bed with Jennifer O'Neill. His last film, The Man in the Moon, marked the screen debut of Reese Witherspoon.
