32 boards? Wow, that is quite a few for one session. Usually it is 24 boards. It can be 1-100, just sayin that 32 is a whole bunch. They were playing imps, not matchpoints.

In standard pairs scoring, you score 2 points for every pair you beat and 1 for every pair with whom you tie. If yours is the best score, it doesn't matter if you beat the others by 10 points or 200, you still score a "top"

If there are a very small number of tables (say less than four) this can end up being a bit of a lottery. An alternative is to use IMP (International Match Point) scoring. This is the type of scoring used in teams matches. With IMP scoring, it is the amount by which you beat the opposition which is significant.

From board 31 and I if I remember your mom is Dering. They were sitting EW and their opponents made prolly 3C so the opponents scored 110 as did two other NS pairs. 2 NS pairs prolly made 4C which is the 130, since those EW pairs that gave up 130 instead of 110 your mom's pair scored more imps--note the 4.00 they scored. One NS pair scored 150 which means that the EW pair they played were in a contract that went down 3 thus the 150. The top score was the EW pair that scored 200 meaning they set a NS pair in a contract that NS should not have been in. I am not a real good explainer, you may need slam or Bob###.

I agree that 32 boards is a lot to play in one session. 24 is more typical, maybe 28.

This is clearly a matchpoint game, not an IMP game. The key difference is that in a matchpoint game, it matters how many other pairs in your direction you did better than on a particular board. In an IMP game it matters how MUCH better you did than any of them.

First of all, there's a copying problem here. The first number in each row can be under either the 1st N-S or the 1st E-W depending on what actually happened on the board (but it's easy to deduce where it should be from the other information there). The 2nd number should be under the 2nd N-S and the 3rd number should be under the 2nd E-W. Those numbers refer to how many matchpoints each pair scored on the board. The first number in each row refers to the bridge score obtained on the board. For example, bidding and making 3 no trump while not vulnerable gives a score of 400.

Let's look at the top row. The N-S pair Haley-Rippel scored +1090 on the board. That's the best N-S score, so they get 1 matchpoint for each of the other 6 pairs that they did better than, for a total of 6 matchpoints (that 6.00 should be under the 2nd N-S). Since they had the best N-S score, Winsor-Passeri had the worst E-W score, doing worse than all 6 other E-W pairs. Therefore, they get 0 matchpoints on this board. Note that the matchpoint score of the N-S and E-W pairs who played against each other on any particular board have to add up to 6. The better one of them did on that board, the worse the other did.

Assuming your mother is Deering, her opponents made 4 no trump (probably bidding 3NT and making an overtrick) for a score of +430. Therefore, your mother's score at the table was -430. That sounds bad, but really isn't as you'll see in a moment. The score that really counts is her matchpoints. On this board, her -430 was better than Angelo-Monahan's -450, Martin-Johnson's -480 and Winsor-Passeri's -1090. So, she gets 1 matchpoint for each of those E-W pairs she beat for a total of 3 matchpoints out of a total of 6 matchpoints, an average board.

Although there were 32 boards, your mother only played 28 of them. Depending on the "movement" used, either she sat out for awhile or she simply didn't play 4 of the boards. But each E-W pair also played the same number of boards (though not the exact same 28 boards). In any event, if my addition is correct she and her partner scored 82 matchpoints. Average on 28 boards would be 3*28 = 84. So, they were just under average in the middle of the field.

Also, IMPs are typically used in Team events where you have a team of 4. You and your partner play N-S at one table against a pair and your teammates play the same board sitting E-W against the teammates of your opponents. Then your and your teammates scores are added. That number is looked up on a scale (there are a few different ones) and you get some number of points from that.

These are the hand-by-hand results. You can't really use them efficiently to tell how she's doing, but she might find it entertaining (or educational) to find out which of her hands were good results and which were not. The other link you found will be more handy for the purpose of comparing her to the rest of the field. The better she's doing, the closer to the top you'll find her name. --Bob

In fact, I've played in a few IMP pairs events here in the US. I just didn't want to confuse the issue too much.

ETA: Actually, I can't tell if your comment refers to the 2/1 vs. 1/.5 or IMPs vs. matchpoints, probably the former.
