Started 90 minutes later than Sting thought it would.
I can no longer see down the hill.
We might get thundersnow! Who knew there was such a thing?

We had thunder-snow and thunder-sleet last night.
Led to no school today, and likely a thundering headache for my wife. <g>

Snow sucks. Cold sucks. Hospitals suck. Stoopid drunks who show up for court DRUNK for their DUI sentencing suck.
Okay. Done venting.

According to doppler radar from a local TV station, it is snowing outside my window.
According to the Mark I eyeball radar, it is not snowing outside my window.

According to the same station's "futurecast" (read: a forecast with delusions of grandeur), it will start snowing outside my window between 2:30 and 3:00.

I know. You can't beat up the weather, and the drunk is his own worst enemy. If the hospital staff continues to piss me off, I'll be in touch.

According to ghostjmf eyeball radar, no snow here yet either.
However, "nonessential" personnel are now officially allowed to go home, by nice Acting Dean of my particular School. That's not all of RichU, just a School-level (the change that has otherwise brought me only woe) part of it. No previous Dean ever deigned to think of us nonessential personnel, not even during a potential impending hurricane. This person is a professor here, which may explain it.
So almost everyone went home, the "take over your neighbor's work" new function on the computer system doesn't work correctly even if I wanted to (& I kinda wanted to, just to get the stuff out of here before Monday) & I guess I should go too.
Its a pity; I was planning to watch more Regenesis year #3 episodes, which recently went up on hulu.com, the legal "shows we apparently can't sell for enough to market the DVD" site. I should have that computer at home, already. Yeah.
I was actually thinking "laptop" rather than "computer", but how much space does the video-playing software take up?

I heard Jim mention thundersleet in this storm last night!
I decided to call it a day (and a year!) at lunchtime, and managed to make it home, despite a couple iffy spots on the hills. And here I stay for the rest of the day.
After a respite tomorrow, there's supposed to be another storm on Sunday, with lingering snow showers on Monday. Looks like Tuesday will be my window of opportunity to drive down to NJ.

Thanks. NOt coming home today, after all. He's got to be on IV fluids. So I go up after work last night and his dinner had arrived, so I stepped out to make a few phone calls while he ate. I went back in at about ten to 6. I noticed about a half hour later that his IV wasn't actually in his arm anymore. I'm quick like that. So this conversation took place between me and the CNA:
Me: Did he pull his IV out again?
Nurse: No - the nurse said it needed to be re-done, so we took it out at 6:00.
Me: Um, I've been in his room since before six, and it's been out since at least then.
CNA:

It has commenced snowing outside my window. It has been snowing back home for about a half-hour, according to GW. She is concerned for my welfare. As it should be.
I have put some work snacks into my lunchbag, just in case the commute takes humongously longer than usual. I expect just a simple "longer than usual" commute, for which I would not need extra nourishment.

Me: Um, I've been in his room since before six, and it's been out since at least then.
CNA:
Okay. I hit tab or something and that posted too soon. Let me try again:
CNA: Let me go see what's up.
45 minutes later:
me: So, what's the story?
CNA: Someone will be in 'soon' to get it going.
me: soon?
30 minutes later:
me: (at nurses station) So, you do understand that the IV fluid thing is THE SOLE REASON he's here, right?
nurse: someone will be right down to get it started.
me: okay, I'll just wait here for 'someone'
I prolly wouldn't be so cranky about it if the same thing hadn't happened the day he was admitted. I got him to his room at 9:45, and when I left at ten to one, still no IV. I complained to his doc when I spoke to him this morning and he's promised to raise hell. I don't think the nursing staff believes me when I tell them hubby needs to be supervised, until they (invariably) experience an incident first hand. Case in point: I got this call from my mom this morning:
mm: Are you at work?
me: Um, let me check .. yes, that's the number you called.
mm: smartass. Your husband just called me.
me: WHAT?
mm: Yup. Apparently, he fell off his bike this morning and couldn't find you, so when he decided he needed to see a doctor, he just walked to the hospital.
me: <lmao>
mm: Didn't you tell the nurses not to let him use the phone.
me: yes. They dint believe me.
Thank GOD he doesn't remember his mom's number. If they'd gotten that call, they'd already be on a plane to rescue him from me. I called the nursing station and suggested they check on him. I only hope my mom's number is the only one he remembered. If any 1-900 calls show up on the hospital bill I'm gonna be PISSED.

Looks like they could unplug the phone in his room. I feel for you.
Hope he's better soon.

I'm betting they have, by now. If he's figured out the room service thingie, he's gonna be eating good if they haven't. It is frustrating to feel I'm not listened to; you'd think they would realize that just maybe, after six years of this, I might have a slight idea of how things work with him. But, noooo, I'm not a medical professional, enaht. argh. This, too, will pass, and I expect he'll be released tomorrow. If they don't misplace him first.

I just got home. It was a two-hour drive.

Maximum speeds were 45 MPH. There was sleet all the way. No snow - just piles of sleet - until I started up my hill. We have three inches of snow with sleet on top.

I, too, am home. Commute wasn't even twice normal time. Snow is much less than they are still saying on the weather reports. I don't know where they're measuring.
Gripe: Aside from one teeny car doing 20 mph in the center lane (where there was the most snow) with its emergency flashers on (why not pull into the right lane, bud?), the slowest vehicles were big frickin' 4x4 Jeeps, SUVs and pickups! I passed one doing maybe 25 while I easily was doing 40-45 in my Corrolla. Can we take their vehicles away from them, since they obviously don't need or know how to drive the ginormous things that waste gasoline?

I think the snow totals aren't as high as they predicted because the storm was moving so quickly. Our storm warning was supposed to last until midnight, but the main part of it had moved out of here by 3 pm. We'd have a lot more than the six inches we got, if it had taken its time.
