5th Grader thread

The Episcopal priest finished his run, last night.
Despite Jeff's moderate success at making him doubt stuff he knew all along, he breezed through the stack and walked away with $500K, not wanting to take a risk on an obscure question in the 5th Grade Music category. As we were reminded in flashbacks, his daughter had been contestant on the show, who guessed wrong on her $1 Million question and dropped back to $25K.
Incidentally, the Reverend had taught middle school band and chorus for eight years.
And he knew the answer to the question when it was revealed "for fun": What composer wrote the 1812 Overture?
Tonight's show is one of the previously unaired episodes with last season's Fifth Graders, continuing the "Mystery Desk" theme. On last Friday's episode, the first person to occupy the Mystery Desk was Cody's identical twin, Brody! Brody got called up first to help the contestant, but we never even got to see his answers, since the contestant didn't need any help at the 1st Grade level. Thus ended Brody's turn in the spotlight.
The second contestant, who finishes his run tonight, had his mother-in-law sitting in the Mystery Desk. So far, he hasn't called on her for help. Jeff is trying to make this a big deal, whether he'll use her help or the 5th Graders. From the answers she's had sitting at the desk, the contestant would be better off asking the kids!

I would have gotten that one! When I was 4 or 5 I had two records I would put on, and put on loud. The soundtrack to The Music Man and the 1812 Overture. I can still see (in my head) the album cover with the composer's name in big black letters over a painting of sailing ships firing cannons.

That's an interesting musical choice for a five year old!

Don't you read all the threads?

He has to check and see who owes him money.

That's exactly what I was thinking!

You are not going to believe this but I watched the show last night.
I baked 18 dozen cookies yesterday, I am sick and Jeff turned on the television. I didn't have the motivation to get up and find the remote to change the channel.

Woo hoo!
So what did you think of it? Aside from its usual glacial pace...

The questions are easy and the show goes too slow. It's difficult to watch for me because I know what the curriculum is like at each grade level and the stuff they cover is not even remotely part of the content standards for the grades they say they are.

LOL
I don't read the comments on the show.
I read all the comments about the comments just to make sure someone said
I can't believe you still watch this show.

My mom loves this show.
She made me watch one night when I was there.
She thinks I should go on as she thinks I am smarter than a 5th grader.
She also LOVES the kids. I did not have the heart to tell her all we know about them.

Technically, nobody has yet. (You were just quoting it, not
saying it.)

Well, we only have Emma's inside story about
one of them cheating, in the first season. Most of the rest just seem to be typical, young WEs. (Except for Nathan, who had the smarts and the attitude to be an outstanding professional lifeline on this show.)

My mom thinks they are 'just 5th graders', not actors.
