WWTBAM Bored

A "must see" for all bored members!

Be forewarned there are some gross out scenes that you can easily avoid by looking away from the screen without missing key plot points.

Definately not the WWTBAM that Michael Davies will be pleased with. They probably bypassed his approval by using the India Version of the show. Hard hitting, mythical at times and realistic in its depiction of modern day Mumbai (even more poignant after the horrific events there!).

It was an excellent movie, easily deserving the acclaim it's gotten. It does show a very rough side of life in India, where poverty has a completely different meaning than it does here, and it's a great love story as well.

Much of it is subtitled, but easy to follow. The Millionaire sequences are in English with some Indian phrases thrown in. It's interesting the different valuation of questions here vs. there.

I thought it was fascinating how the movie was able to work the intricacies of Millionaire, including the nature of the lifelines, into the story line quite logically. The story just wouldn't have worked without this particular setting.

As far as the Indian version of Regis, let's just say he's no Regis (or Meredith either).

Millionaire is not the property of Michael Davies. It belongs to Sony now. Disney just licenses the format from them.

Oh wow, this has potential written all over it....I'm going to consider and come back with my own personal 15 questions....this could get interesting, do I have to keep it G-Rated?

Since Celador Films is the production company, I suppose he did have some approval of the film.

I haven't seen it yet, but after seeing clips on the British version of BAM nowadays, it would have to go some to be worse.

Michael Davies owns Embassy Row, not Celador.

No. It is not playing in Poughtown.

It is playing in a even more Podunk place - Red Hook.

I'm well aware of that. He partnered with Celador for BAM and may still have some sort of agreement with them.

How is 'well aware of' distinct from 'aware of'?

Bob had already appeared on a PAF list twice that season and was deemed ineligible!

I've got to make time for it, this weekend!

I went to see Slumdog Millionaire yesterday. A good crowd, for a matinee at an arts theater in a town that's basically emptying out for the holidays.

As others warned, there are some scenes in this film that are pretty brutal and not for the more sensitive among us. If the Suchard family hasn't gone to see it yet, I'd suggest that Emma, for one, would rather not.

Being all about ontopicosity, I wonder of some the differences between the US version of WWTBAM and the Indian version were accurate or merely there for dramatic purposes?

I highly doubt that the bathroom scene would ever take place.

The snow has ruined my plans to see this film.

Looks like I will wait until it is out on video.

I think this one will still be playing in theaters for a good while.

The local "arts' cinema has other things starting. Maybe it will be back.

I enjoyed this film immensly and it deserves all of its acclaim. I highly recommend it to all bored buddies as well! Go see it!

Actually Jeff's parents had the girls for the weekend and took them to see it. They both really enjoyed it. Phyllis said that she was ready to take Emma out of the theater at one point but that Emma was ok.

Emma does feel the world's pain.

We may have World War III on our hands because of Emma's attitude.

Maddie inherited Grandma Jean's vintage fur coat. Emma was upset at the idea of Maddie wearing fur and threatened to destroy it if we brought it home. We yelled at her and said that it's Maddie's personal choice to wear fur and that Maddie loves the coat becuse it belonged to her Great-Grandmother's. Still, when we brought the coat home, we hid it so as not to tempt fate.
