No, the question isn't "Who is Time Magazine's 2008 Person of the Year" since that's way too easy.
Which of these people is NOT on the Runners Up list in their article?
A. Sarah Palin
B. Zhang Yimou
C. Michael Phelps
D. Nicolas Sarkozy
C. Michael Phelps
8 golds and he wasn't even shortlisted.
There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

Well he was Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. And he has a boatload of commercial endorsements.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

I have never seen a year where both Person of the Year and Sportsman of the Year were so easy to predice.

TIME likes to play at inclusiveness, even though it knows the world is 98% politics, so Phelps will be there. They like to have a name nobody knows, do Zhang will be there. And also TIME orients itself more to the Orient than to Europe, so Sarkozy will not.
