Removed from the Roll Call thread....

Anyway, this is the third annual Bored Roll Call, blatantly ripped off from a similar thread in the GC 2 years ago. The point is simple.... whether you post all the time, hardly ever, or somewhere in between, please feel free to add a post to this thread whether it be to just say hello, give holiday wishes, say something special, or nothing really at all. And especially if you haven't made a post in a while, we'd love to see a post from you in this thread to know you're still alive....
I was going to make my post a tribute to just how great a year this has been for the Bored.... well, despite the recent outage. We seem to have settled in quite well over here at our new home, and we have managed to pick up probably our largest batch of new posters since the final year of the old ABC Bored in 2001. After several straight years in the TUB when it seemed Ace's Prophesy was coming closer and closer to becoming reality, I think this year has done a lot towards preserving the long-term health of our little Bored community.....
With no active games at the moment, I will keep this thread stickied until after New Year's....

"Ace's Prophesy (sic)"??
I'm here.
In one of Ace's many reflective posts he made way back in the old days (Maybe around the time of the Morlock invasion), he made mention that over the course of time, the community here would gradually drift off, move on, and leave the Bored a desolate wasteland. Eyegor brings up Ace's Prophesy from time to time (That's where I got the reference from), and I think that during the last half of the TUB era, we were well on our way to fulfilling that prophesy....
I will be the first to say I was wrong in wanting to cling to the "old Bored" for as long as it was physically possible. We should have set up our own place a long time ago....
And we also need to implement a better disaster plan in case something even worse happens the next time. With Go Mail long gone, and the Yahoo playgrounds we had passe, we are not nearly as well connected with each other outside of the confines of this Bored as we used to be. I'm sure there were a number of people on here who had no idea what was going on the last few days, and had no way of finding out that there was just a temporary problem with the Bored's server....

Facebook as a means of communication, perhaps? I know Dave was posting updates there (or at least I read that he was doing so). I don't know how many of us have Facebook pages, though.

I don't, and have no desire to get one. But I am already well connected....

I had some thoughts about this during those two days, when I realized how many people there are from the Bored who aren't in the GC or any of the other Yahoo groups, or who I couldn't communicate with via Facebook, or by email, etc. I'm pondering some ways to combat that problem now. It would be helpful if everyone would make sure that their primary posting account on here is registered with a working email address that you check at least occasionally. I know some have chosen not to do that, but if there were to be another major outage (or something worse that keeps the Bored offline for a more extended period of time) then it would make it easier if I could pull a master list of email addresses from my database backups and let everyone know directly what's going on.

Can't we just have lb pull out a notebook to keep track of this?

I like Dave's idea best, but I found one other communications channel.
I got in touch with Hot Seat or Bust, whose last name I didn't know and whose e-mail address I didn't have, through Sploofus. (That involved an earlier stroke of luck, when a Sploofus name I didn't recognize put me on a "friend" list, and I found out through chat that it was HSoB.)

A number of us are on Facebook. It would be easy enough for people to join Facebook and start a WWTBAM Bored group.

I post primarily from a work computer and don't know whether or not I can have Facebook.
I think that would apply to others here.

Remember the Bored I set up last year is still operational and could have been used for backup communication. We still have the Y! groups too, right?

Which leads me to ask... who hosts this bored, and why?

Answers to these and other questions can be found in the
deep history of the Bored. --Bob

There are 10 kinds of people on this Bored ...
those who drift away after they go on the show and those who stay

Then there are 100* kinds of people on this Bored, counting those who don't get on the show and either drift away or stay.
*This is a follow-up joke for those fluent in binary, of course!

Actually, there are 110 kinds of people on this Bored, since you must include those who got on the show, but never REALLY got on the show and have either stayed or drifted away....

And we also need to implement a better disaster plan in case something even worse happens the next time
Let's just meet at my house, okay?
Christie has to bring the refreshments.
