Welcome back home

#1 Post by tubadave » Tue Dec 16, 2008 11:11 pm

As you can all plainly see, the Bored is back, and reasonably functional again.

Before anyone has a chance to ask, the reason some of you got in a few hours ago and some of you still saw the "transferring files" message I left was because I forgot that some of you have bookmarks to the site that bypass the front page. I had kept the front page offline so I could finish checking. In other words, I locked the door, but some of you decided to climb in through the window. :)

In any case, it wasn't a major concern, because I figured that everything would be more or less OK anyway. Thus far, I am not seeing (under my usual Getaway Blue or the subsilver2 themes) the posting/reading problems that some have described. I'll keep checking.

My web hosting provider will gradually be restoring lost files over the next few days. It's possible that I've missed something, and that they'll fill in the gap, so problems may be disappearing on their own anyway.

I've noticed that the Bored seems a little sluggish right now, and I'm betting that will continue for the next several days, since my account was far from the only one affected, and I'm sure there's a LOT of file transferring happening right now, making the server a bit slow.

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Bug Reports? Knock Knock Jokes? Put 'em in this thread.

Dave, you have done a great job and put in a lot of work to bring the Bored back and I, for one, would like to thank you.

One question/comment - the screen has this message displayed on it:

It is currently Wed Dec 17, 2008 8:54 am

and below it this message:

All times are UTC - 5 hours [ DST ]

Evidently the Bored thinks that DST is in effect because the actual time is 7:54 am where I am.

You don't realize how much you'll miss something until it's gone. You've done a great job of getting us up and running again and I really appreciate it.

My boss however probably appreciates the fact I got more work done the last two days than usual....

Thanks, 'skoop - I checked that and saw that I was on Eastern time but didn't see the line for indicating whether DST was in effect or not.

Thanks for all the work you do on this bored, Mr. Tuba.

What's weird is that I can only access it from the little desktop icon we set up through internet explorer. I'm glad I clicked it! I cannot get here through i.e. itself, nor thru aol as I usually do.

Even tho I'm relatively new here, without the sometimes several-times-a-day visit, I was really feeling a big void in my day...

Glad to see y'all back!

Actually the software is too dumb to know when DST starts and ends. Whether or not the time displays DST is in your profile. In other words, the option says whether or not DST is in effect, not whether or not to observe it.
