C___R____A-------

The Yanks are going to sign AJ Burnett. At a ridiculous contract, of course. 82.5 for 5 years. 50% raise over the mere 11 million he earned last year from the Blue Jays.

I would like Canada to keep a team in MLB, but the Blue Jays in essence now have no hope for reaching the playoffs from their division, in the next ten years or so. In absence of a true set of miracles. Even if (with one miracle) the Blue Jays were to have a team which would in a given year win a weak division, they will have two or three teams in front of them.

Same way I felt when "Spos got stuck behind Atlanta -- in the first era of massive money dominance -- and were relegated to the off chance of winning a wild card, I knew that was probably he end of the franchise then. I think Blue Jays franchise will wilt to nothing within 5 years and be gone from Toronto soon after.

Tampa Bay managed to win that division (and the pennant) without breaking the bank. --Bob
