Did you still need the name of that barber at Joliet? Jake and Elwood recommend him too. And he doesn't have a curling iron either.

Good for DaveSenior that he only needs a Lifeboat for posting, these days (IIRC).

If Dimmzy were around (2 posts away from 1K) you could have a race.....

If you find out let me know...I've been at 51 for half my adult life, I think.

Thanks as always for doing this, LB.

#5 reminded me of Obscenely Rich Bastard.

So I’ve owned this precious little bundle of puppy for 5 days now and I love it…despite the obvious early challenges of puppy ownershiphood:
1. Loves to wake up at 8:00am with an incredible amount of energy. Since I am recently out of school I’m not really into the waking up early thing right now.
2. Eats everything and anything he finds on the ground…including network cables :(
3. Has huge bursts of energy and instant crashes always at the wrong times.
4. Pees whenever he feels like it…unfortunately not always outside.
5. Likes to hold sticks in his mouth like a cigar. I try to tell him it’s not very puppy like and a bad example to his peers.
Of course the good things make it soooo worth it for me such as how much the cat fears my ferocious little beast. Ahhh…I hate that cat…

LOL, that is cute!

If ES drew portraits of Merry Men, that would be his inspiration for ORB.....

If I haven't made it past the deadwood by now, then I never will. Yes, it's that time again, time for me to start conserving my posts.

Here's to ontopicosity!

Man Against Little Beast

July 19, 2008

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in San Diego,California Keeper Brad bravely walked into the Panda exhibit to perform his daily task of setting out fresh bamboo for Momma Panda Bai Yun.

Bai Yun had gone into her den when she was called but Zhen Zhen did not respond. She had other plans.

You see, today was a special day.
Today Bad Baby Panda Zhen Zhen would attempt to remove Keeper Brad's shoe.

I am not sure if Bai Yun was in on this;
I saw her communicating with Zhen Zhen in the corner of the exhibit shortly before she went in, and Zhen Zhen scurried up the tree to hide from the keeper.

Her attempt at getting the shoe was almost successful, But in the end when reason and bribes failed to talk her out of it Keeper Brad had to put her on time out.

She resurfaced later from the den pretending nothing had happened.

Keeper Brad survived the ordeal, although he may have a love bite on one of his legs.

I found a crested wung at school today. Its habitat had been ripped up by the construction, so I took it home. I tried to release it into my yard, but it scratched at the window and yowled pathetically. I let it in. It’s getting on swimmingly with my cats, and ate all the pickles I packed in my lunch. A very cute little beast.

. . .

I am not such a base character as to bribe you, but if you promise to prepare the tea with herbs, not bags, I’ll contemplate making the promise you’ve been working so hard to attain.

Here's the part about bribes:

Google sees privacy threats

By Eric Auchard
Wed Aug 9, 6:38 PM ET

SAN JOSE, California (Reuters) - Web search leader Google Inc., which stores vast amounts of data on the Web surfing habits of its users, sees government intrusions rather than accidental public disclosures of data as the greatest threat to online privacy, its chief executive said on Wednesday. [...]

'Unless, of course, you're talking about the Chinese government, in which case we'd like to say they are fantabulous and kind and always smile broadly at us and have such lovely, thick black hair! Super-duper folks, those Chinese! No, what we're talking about are the governments that don't require us to pay what amounts to huge bribes to operate in their countries. THOSE are the really dangerous ones, you know. Just can't trust them an INCH. Sure, the Chinese can look at anything they want, anytime they want, but they're not the least bit dangerous to us. Especially after we make sure nothing bad gets through. Nope--no Falun Gong for us! Strictly business, you know--we've got to be there when the masses of Chinese people want to use a search engine. I mean, they're gonna use SOMEthing, right? Why not Google, we say! But AMERICA! Oooh, buddy--THERE'S your problem.'

Anyway, to paraphrase the old joke, we've determined what Google is (along with Yahoo! and Microsoft) , all we're doing now is negotiating the price.

And here's the part about little beasts:

And so--
Up Saturday, put on clothes, go downstairs, go outside, see that no one has dared touch my precious rear wheelless heap, survey what must be done during the day.

Set in to work.

Finish getting rear calipers bolted on, install new pads, put wheels back on, remove jackstands, lower car. It all sounds so very easy--and when you get right down to it, each of the individual tasks IS easy. However, when you have all of them to do in sequence, and you keep having to interrupt the flow of work when you realize you left your 14mm wrench on the other side of the car, and you have to get up and go around and get it and then come back and then you realize you also need your hammer and you have to go get that, well, all of that combined gets to be somewhat fatiguing.

I need a monkey.

Nice little beast to go get me stuff that I forget. Of course, monkeys tend to poop on things. And I don't know how you'd train one to get you a pair of slip joint pliers instead of a pair of wire pliers. And they'd be screeching and chittering when they weren't doing something. And they'd probably want to lick up antifreeze. . . .
