During the holiday break?

Looks like I am not going to Toronto so I can stay home with Son1111.

Because that's what schools do.

The holiday break's always the time for b'ball tournaments around here. That and rasslin'.....

Another reason I steered clear of school sports.....

I was just looking for sympathy, but never mind.

So is husband1111 going to Canada anyway? Son1111' s team is going to win
the tournament and he'll be the star of the game! Maybe you can negotiate another trip in
lieu of this one for the near future. You're a good mom. :)

Consider the source.

You have MY sympathy! I was thrilled when the older two eschewed team sports. Mini-me's baseball deal showed Steve that there were things to do on a weekend besides pack a bag and go.

Go, Son1111!!!!

(Husband and Daughter)1111 are going.

No tournament but big game against the in town rivals.

Just feeling sorry for myself this morning.

Weather is pretty sucky too.

And the 6 am conference call (1 1/2 hours long) didn't help.

Well, he'll still be the MVP of the game!

Our weather is quite frightful. It was 72 here yesterday, which is never
good in December! It's dark as night out there right now and supposed
to be stormy all day.

6 am!?

Conferencing with folks in Europe, I presume?

Speaking of weather (we were weren't we?)...I just saw where parts of Mississippi
could get 2 inches of snow! It's gonna shut those places down for a week. I'm just hoping it
doesn't get this far east. It will mess up my "Little Black Dress" party I'm having here tomorrow
night.

Which is why I did not immediately answer the question, like LB.

You have my sympathy, although I am sure that you will enjoy your son's game more than a bowl game trip.

We're getting 70's today. But the rain has just started, so it's a waste of warm weather.

This is why I wouldn't be a good mom. If it wasn't a tournament or championship or anything, I'd just tell him to butch up and get in the car.

I am not giving advice or my unsolicited opinion on what you should do. Just noting that you are a much better mother than I could be. Or maybe it's simply a mom thang and I wouldn't understand, since Kiki and Mini see it as a given that you're staying home.

If he wanted to go on the trip more than play the games, I'd take him on the trip. If it were a family vacation or other event that had been planned long in advance, I'd take him on the trip. But if it meant more to him to play the game than to go on the trip, I'd stay home for the game.

It appears to be a case of the game taking precedent, and if it's important enough to him, it's important enough to christie. I guess that makes it a Mom Thang!

I think this is son1111's first year of playing basketball (I could be wrong
about that). Since it's not a tournament, I might consider asking the coach if it's a big deal
if he misses this game. On the other hand, when you are on a team, you've made a commitment
and I think it's important for kids to know they have to honor that commitment.

He prefers to do the team thing and play BBall.

Husband1111 also thinks that he should honor his team commitment.

I was offered the option of being the one going, but if I was going to a bowl game with one kid, I would be trying to hit Uly up for 2 Rose Bowl tickets instead.

:-)

We had a meeting for winter sports last night and I did talk to the coach. He would be allowed to go, but prefers to stay and play.

In Indiana we always had high school basketball and all the other sports over Christmas Break. I was surprised when I moved to Michigan that they pretty much shut down sports for the break.

Of course, they also play varsity boys basketball on Tuesday night in Michigan. To a native Hoosier that was bizarre. Varsity basketball should be on Friday or Saturday night. Otherwise how could the 1,000s of people make it to the games?

Well, if you're not planning on thousands of people . . .

There was a game here last night. I bet there were tens of people there!

More were at the holiday party down the street, I'm afraid (me too!).
