Just before Ethan gave his answer, Ethan repeated the answers, leaving out nitrogen. I think Ethan ran into the same problem many of us had during our first tries at the phone game: it's hard to remember four choices read to you verbally, if you're not taking notes! So he didn't catch the right choice and was left trying to choose between three unlikely noble gasses.

Although it seems that helium would be a much better choice; if you make that bag of chips lighter, it'll have fewer calories, won't it?
