WWTBAM Bored

An English professor at the University of Georgia who was fired after complaining about abuses involving academic nonperformance by scholarship athletes, including the highly successful football teams of the Herschel Walker years. She sued for wrongful termination and was awarded $2.5 million (reduced to "only" $1.1 million on appeal) in 1986 after a trial at which many abusive practices including grade inflation were brought to light. The controversy lead to the resignation of the University's president and substantial subsequent reforms, both at the University and at the NCAA level.
