William "Freezer" Jefferson is gone

AND GOOD RIDDANCE®!

I forgot to post this yesterday, but Louisiana held its last two congressional elections over the weekend. Indicted Democrat William Jefferson lost in his bid for re-election to the 2d District to Republican Anh "Joseph" Cao, 50%-47%. Cao made history by becoming the first Vietnamese-American elected to Congress. But I probably won't expect Cao to last too long in that seat. The district is at least 80% Democratic, so any non-corrupt Democrat should win in 2010.

Meanwhile, Louisiana's 4th District will almost certainly go to a recount. Republican John Fleming is ahead of Democrat Paul Carmouche by only 356 votes. This is an overwhelmingly Republican district that was vacated by the retiring Jim McCrery.

The 2008 Election... the gift that keeps on giving...

So, that means the Republicans can expect to hold onto it, right?

Okay, so the Republicans in Louisiana are corrupt, too.

Except Governor Jindal. That dude's awesome!
