Lyrically Speaking Day 20 12/6/08
Posted: Sat Dec 06, 2008 5:57 pm
My sincere apologies for the lateness of today's game.
Today's game is a collection of mini-tributes to four artists. Of course, you won't need to give the artists, since I'll give you those, and as usual, if you see a blank (______), I'm looking for you to fill in the blank instead of giving the title.
Since I'm so late with this, the game will remain open until Tuesday at noon Eastern.
TRIBUTE 1: JOURNEY
1. I've been trying to make it home
Got to make it before too long
Ooh, I can't take this very much longer
2. She loves to laugh, she loves to sing
She does everything
She loves to move, she loves to groove
She loves the lovin' things
3. It won't be long yet, 'til you're alone
When your lover, oh, he hasn't come home
'Cause he's lovin', _____, _____ another
4. A singer in a _____ _____
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
5. Living without you, living alone
This empty house seems so cold
Wanting you to hold you, wanting you near
How much I wanted you home
TRIBUTE 2: JONI MITCHELL
6. It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
Putting up reindeer and singing songs of joy and peace
7. You know I'd go back there tomorrow
But for the work I've taken on
Stokin' the star-maker machinery
Behind the popular song
8. I met a redneck on a Grecian isle
Who did the goat dance very well
He gave me back my smile
But he kept my camera to see
9. I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, "Where are you going?"
And this he told me,
"I'm going down to _____ _____
I'm going to join in a rock and roll band
I'm going to camp out on the land
Try and get my soul free"
10. And the seasons, they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
TRIBUTE 3: LED ZEPPELIN
11. Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace
Whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear
12. There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know, sometimes _____ ______ ______ _____
13. The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde, singing and crying
Valhalla, I am coming!
14. From the houses of the holy
We can watch the _____ _____ go
Fromt he door comes Satan's daughter
And it only goes to show, you know
15. But now it's time for me to go
The autumn moon lights my way
For now I smell the rain
And with it pain
And it's headed my way
TRIBUTE 4: INDIGO GIRLS (Deal with it....I love 'em. Besides, two of 'em are covers from one of their live albums, and you've probably heard the originals.)
16. Well, darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear
I wrap my fear around me like a blanket
I said my ship of safety 'til I sank it
17. And then you had to bring up reincarnation
Over a couple of beers the other night
And now I'm serving time for mistakes
Made by another in another lifetime
18. Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century
19. When we last talked, we were lying on our backs
Looking up at the sky through the ceiling
I used to lie like that alone out on the driveway
Trying to read the Greek upon the stars, the alphabet of feeling
20. So he sold all his hopes
And he even sold his own car
And bought a one-way ticket back
To the life that he once knew
Oh, yes he did, he said he would
