KT's HERESY: THE SQUIGGLY SUX

So, I've been thinking of getting a new LCD TV, since my old old old old bedroom TV is literally on its last legs. Prices of 1080p LCDs have come down significantly, and this being prime electronics buying season, I went online to see what I could see. I found this Toshiba at BestBuy, and liked it. Kept looking and found this Sony, both at BestBuy and Wal-Mart. Then I noticed that Wal-Mart had this Philips, at $797.

Since I hate buying something before actually seeing it, I stopped off at my local Wal-Mart (which has the TV in stock, as well as the Sony). The TV picture looks pretty good, although the Sony, which they naturally had RIGHT NEXT to the Philips, looked GREAT....but the Philips was tagged not at $797, but at $898. And the Sony was marked at $998, rather than the $925 price I saw it for online. When I asked about the difference, the clerk (nice guy, BTW) told me that many of their items were priced lower online, but you CAN'T GET THEM FOR THAT PRICE IN THE STORE, even if they have them in stock! The odd part is that I was told I could order it online, have it shipped for free to the store (where they already had them both IN STOCK), wait 7 to 10 days, and pick it up for the online price.

Wait a second....they have it IN STOCK, but I have to wait 10 days for it to be shipped from some warehouse to the store to get the cheaper price????? ARE THEY KIDDING ME? And to top it off, since the Sony is OUT of stock online, I can't get it at that price no matter what!

So guess who's going to lose out? Yep, I'm probably going to go to Circuit City (who have a price-match policy), and buy the Sony for the Wal-Mart price. TTTHHHHHPPPPPTTTTT on the Squiggly!

We got a slightly smaller Sony Bravia than that one last year, and love it. We were able to get it from a long-time local chain that advertises faithfully in our paper, for close to what it would have cost at a big box store. I don;'t mind paying a smidge more to keep them in business as long as possible. Besides, roomie paid for it....

Hey, if you want notebooks, spray glue(sniff!) or cheap tomatoes, they still can't be beat!

One does not question the Squiggly. One bows down to the Squiggly, or one ignores the Squiggly as a matter of principle.

Come, join us. Ignore the Squiggly, and walk for a while in the light.

The joys of internet shopping. We just got in a new Flat Screen for our new office. Bought from Amazon. When we opened the box, it was smashed to hell. I've never seen a electronic item so badly damaged. The box showed damaged but not in proportion to the damage inside.
