CBS and ABC announced new series to be premiering winter/spring of 2009
On ABC, Castle stars Nathan Fillion as a mystery writer who discovers that a serial killer has been restaging crime scenes from his books in real life. Cupid is a remake of the Jeremy Piven series of a few years ago about a man who thinks he is Cupid (and he may either really be Cupid or really be nuts) and whose mission on earth is to bring 100 couples together who are meant for each other. I liked the Piven version (it fit his style perfectly) and it bombed. This version stars the considerably less charismatic Bobby Cannavale. The Unusuals is an ensemble show about a group of neurotic police officers including Harold Perrineau and Amber Tamblyn in a New York precinct house. Imagine a cross between The Office and NYPD Blue. All three series will premiere in March or April, and I don't hold much hope for any of them being back in the fall.
On CBS, there will be a new hidden camera show from Ashton Kutcher entitled Game Show in My Head, one more reason not to watch TV on Saturdays. Also, Harpers Island, which sounds like a variant on Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians. A group of strangers are on a remote island and get killed off one by one (it's a self contained 13 episode mystery series). Harry Hamlin is the most recognizable name in the cast. Also, Flashpoint, the Canadian series about a SWAT team that did well over the summer, returns on Friday nights this winter.
