I definitely remember previous UCLA-Southern Cal games when both teams wore their dark uniforms. There's enough of a difference in color (red vs. light blue) so that people won't get confused, but I'm not sure what the rule is about that in the NCAA.

They could play 10 vs. 11 like they do in soccer and still win the game.

The rules at present require the visiting team to wear white. I think this is an NCAA requirement. It makes sense when two teams like Penn State and Michigan have uniforms which are primarily the same color. But, in regards to the USC-UCLA teams one has to go back in time. Up until 1983 (I think) both teams shared the Coliseum. Of course they alternated which team was the home team and they would switch locker rooms and sidelines. BUT they were both allowed to wear their "home" uniforms. Coach Carroll has always asked if the teams can revert to that tradition. But as has been reported it would cost USC a timeout each half. UCLA's Neuheisel (a former Bruin quarterback) likes the idea and said he might call a timeout each half just to even it out and Pete said he would do the same thing next year at the Coliseum. At Pete's press conference today he said that the PAC-10 commissioner was going to petition the NCAA to get the rule changed. Apparently Oregon (yellow/green) and Oregon State (black/orange) asked the same thing and were turned down.

LA Times update: USC is penalized only one time out in the first half and UCLA's Rick Neuheisel will immediately call a time out at the beginning of the game as soon as SC is assessed their penalty. For those who care:
