In other work-related news

#1 Post by TheCalvinator24 » Mon Dec 01, 2008 11:48 am

I just found out today that my vacation time goes up from 2 to 3 weeks starting with my anniversary date in February. I had thought that it didn't go up until 7 years, but apparently, it is 6.

Longest tenure I've had on a job in my life.

Maybe not all that surprising since I've really only been in the workforce for 12 years. I was 2 years at my first firm. 4 Years solo (with a brief interregnum that long-timers here should recall), and now 6 years as a Prosecutor.

Before that, I was in school, so all I had were seasonal jobs.

Not as much of a wow.

I am guilty of thinking that people around here are 'around' my age. I know they are not and that is where I automatically go when talking about years here and years there.

I turned 40 in August.

I was 28 when I was licensed as an attorney.

Is that an average age for an attorney to get their license?

Average? That depends on which average you mean. If you mean the mean, then possibly. I would guess the median and the mode are closer to 25 or 26. Assume someone is 22 when starting law school (since the majority of law school students go straight from undergrad) and spends three years. That probably makes them 25 at graduation, and then it depends on when the birthday falls and how many times it takes a person to pass the bar exam.

If I had to bet, I'd put money on 26 as a mode and a median, and somewhere between 27-29 as the mean.

So Pea can relate with someone "around" her age. :D

The end of this month I will complete my 25th year with my current employer.

In about three weeks, I will have been in my current job for 12 years. (I started right before Christmas.)

I have been in my vocation as a husband less than a year longer than in my vocation as an attorney. :)
