Opening Night Report

Tonight was opening night for my Community Theatre's production of Seussical: The Musical.

We had a decent crowd (between 50-60% capacity), and the show went off pretty much without a hitch. Curtain Call got a little messed up, but since we only set it last night and ran it once, that wasn't terribly surprising.

I play General Genghis Khan Schmitz and Yertle the Turtle (as well as a random Who and a random Jungle of Nool denizen).

Three of my shows have been with a Professional Company, but I'm not becoming a professional actor anytime soon.

I really liked Seussical. My son just finished a run in his high school's production of Sunday in the Park with George. Those of you who theatre, and Sondheim, are rolling your eyes and saying, "a HIGH SCHOOL did this?" Yes, but only thanks to one of those rare confluences of talent: the two leads are kids who have a defiite chance to do this for the rest of their lives, if they so choose.

But most of the Central audience spoke with their wallets. SUnday was one of the lowest-attended musicals in their history. But what a show! I was wowed.

I'm sure some were in amphibrachic tetrameter too.
