Continuing Education

I did the work I needed to do to get my Ophthalmic Dispensing license back to active three years ago. I have to do continuing education to keep the license active. I was going along and doing the evening meetings and thought I had it handled. I just got a notice that I have to renew in March. I only have 15 of the 18 hours I need.

This needs to get on the front burner now.

I like the approach of telling the group about a thing. Then we are accountable to the group as well as ourselves.

That's how Charles DeGaulle quit smoking.

One day, he told everyone he saw that he was quitting smoking the next day. He knew his ego would not allow himself to be seen smoking after that.

This is not an ego thing with Pea, of course.

This is a "I tell people lots of stuff about myself" thing.

Good luck.

The threat of losing the license isn't enough?

Letting a license drop is not necessarily about integrity. Keeping your word is.

The funny things is, it is about integrity or luck. I have to swear that I did the hours of continuing ed. I have to keep the records that I did (for a 6 year period). I do not have to prove it unless asked to do so.

At one of the meetings, I learned that no one in our group of 35 local opticians have ever been asked to prove it.

How did you wind up with 35 local opticians?

Dutchess County is a large county.

Yes, it is. You said "local", not "countywide".

We have the same continuing ed requirements to keep your insurance license
in the state of Alabama. It's an honor system as well. In 15 years, I've been asked once to
submit my proof of CE credits. That was enough for me to know I'd better have them every
single year.

The county meeting is the local meeting. We have regional and state meetings as well.

My luck is that the local meeting is held in Poughtown, so it is only 35 minutes from my home.

When one lives out here, 35 minutes from home is local.
