WWTBAM Bored

This isn't the first time, although I learned lessons the last time that I hope help this time. The worst part for me is being patient and not tryint to turn it on.

I dropped it in a glass of water...how stupid. I immediately grabbed it out, shook it off, and took the battery out. Then I dried it off and vacuumed it and put it into a bag of rice to help dry it out.

The moisture indicator on the phone did not turn red, although there is a spot on the battery that now has little red x's so I think that probably got wet.

My contract is up so I could very easily get a new phone...I was just hoping to hold off...Verizon is wooing me and I was hoping for a great offer before I re-signed!!

At least it didn't swim in the toilet.

Do you have a cat? Kitty litter is a bit more hydroscopic.

Silica gel is even better. You can get that at a craft store for drying flowers.

Rice will just take awhile.

No cat...and I just bought 2 new pair of shoes and there were no little packets in the boxes!! I thought for sure I was all set with it. I'm not going out to get it, at least not today!! It's too cold!!!!!!

The website I found said the vacuum can work in 30 minutes...but I'm not going to be impatient about it. I used the vacuum for about 10 minutes, put it in the rice then did another 10 minutes with the vacuum about an hour later.

It did NOT fall in the toilet.

I did lose a pedometer in the toilet earlier this year, not a big loss.

I was carrying a glass of water and my phone in the same hand for some reason...put down the glass...plunk...

My very, very, very, very rarely used cell phone spent a couple minutes on the field at Kauffman Stadium this past September. It's not a good idea to put it in your shirt pocket while watching batting practice....

I can't possibly describe how much I hate cell phones......

I did everything mentioned in the OP except putting it in a bag of rice, and it worked fine.

I have no bars in my house, so I only turn it on when I'm out and about. Then I found I have no service in the bookstore at Stephen's school, so it's only marginally useful out of the house, either.

It's quite good at receiving calls to schedule appliance installation or party invitations for other people. My favorite was the wrong number that kept calling at 4 am in Hawaii...

I just paid $53 for a replacement phone. I probably could have gotten a free one since my contract is almost up...but I don't know that I'm sure about another 2 years with Verizon. So I figured I was better off with a replacement. Now it has a 3 month warranty and I get a credit for the ringtones I had. I just lost all my cute saved texts from my boyfriend, he's already been informed that he should get started texting me new cute stuff to save!!

Couldn't you swap the SIM card?

Were you able to get a new one too? I shouldn't complain, mine was pretty durable...I once dropped it down a flight of cement stairs, it then fell through the space between the stairs and fell another story to the ground, landing on concrete, and it didn't miss a beat. They just really don't like to get wet!!!

You're right about being durable as far as other things. I keep one of those
"skins" on mine, which helps keep it from breaking into 10 pieces when you drop it. That seems
to help. I did get another one, as luck would have it, I was eligible for a $100 rebate on a new
phone. I have a SIM card, but I did lose my texts and photos. That may be because of a setting
I have that doesn't save that stuff to the SIM card. I'll have to look into that.

Don't feel bad - a couple years ago elwing and I attended a pool party. Uncharacteristically of me I wore my swimsuit as shorts (bringing along a change of clothing for later), so I had my wallet, car keys with remote entry fob, cell phone, PDA and other items in the cargo-style pockets. We got to the party and after some socializing went for a swim, forgetting about all the things in my pockets. None of the electronics survived - I had to get a new cell phone, PDA and remote entry fob. Of the three the fob was the most difficult to replace.
