I about died loading the groceries in the car. I felt lousy anyway. So Frozen Lousy was just the icing on the cake.

It was 80 last Saturday.

Sorry, but I don't do lackey work on Saturday mornings. You'll just have to put on a couple more coats, a scarf, a ski mask, and some bearskin chaps and get the paper yourself before it freezes to the ground....

The friendly NYC weather person just said today is the coldest yet this year! High of 35 and of course. Very brisk winds.


I've been wearing at least 3 layers of clothing and two pair of socks. It has definitely been an adjudtment. I'm just happy I haven't lost my gloves yet - something I usually do.

At first, I read this as "skirt". For the love of God, man, put the chaps back on! Ha!

(I usually use red when I want to highlight something in a quote, but I chose the colour blue to match your nipples after you get back into the house.)

Try zero Fahrenheit. Boston high temp is expected to reach 32. It won't get that high out in my area. I'm not ready for this yet.

Had to go out to wrap our big A/C this morning. I've been inside 20 minutes and my fingers are still frozen. Hard to type accurately. Thank ghu for the backspace key.

Our windchill was in single digits this morning.

A rarer sight than the Yeti--my son before noon on a Saturday. He got the paper for me, barefoot and in a t-shirt. A howhowhow.

Oh crap. I did not leave the bathroom cold water tap dripping when I left, though I thought about it. (The uninsulated pipes are on an "outside" wall rather than one that faces the interior of the apartment like they're supposed to be, & these pipes froze once long ago, after a very high wind-chill night. I thawed them by wrapping them with towels soaked in boiling water, as well as with prayers & such.)

Weather forecast said the cold spell would break, though. Either the frozen pipes will silently thaw, or my downstairs neighbor will let my landlord know about it, & they'll break in & let my cat out. Great.

Only I notice that your post is time stamped "1:09pm", & when I left in the very early am (7:00), the cold water was running. 'Til I turned off the tap, that is.

I know I'm probably being too simplistic here, but can't you just ask whoever's looking after your cat to open the tap when they're over there if it gets too cold?

G-d knows why I would even want to contribute to your attempt at humor, or whatever it actually is, but if anyone were looking after my cat, gee, I might have had that though myself. The cat is a cat. Lots of food. Lots of water. No visitor, unfortunately for the cat.

By the way, I'm still waiting for that big check with which you buy me & all the rest of the by-your-estimation deprived cable, TiVO setups & the like so we can be just like you.

Not freeze faster. Just that wind chill makes the cold, well, colder. The colder it gets, & the longer period its gets cold for without water flowing through the cold-water pipes, the likelier it is they'll freeze at all.

Since the apartment is never lower than 62 degrees F (unless the furnace goes out), its a wonder they'll freeze at all. I have heard news reports sporting pundits claiming frozen indoor pipes in a heated apartment are an urban myth. Unfortunately, the pundits are wrong; I've had them, & I've thawed them.

My landlord frequently calls up on nights when it isn't nearly cold enough for anything to freeze & instructs me to leave the cold water running ("dripping" is more like it, as this is also the landlord who frequently raises the rent citing a slightly increased water bill). I should have just done that this time without the call, & will do so over the Christmas holidays.

This evening, I had to turn on the heater in the car. It was 57 degrees outside. Brrrrr.
