Lyrically Speaking Day 9 - 11/22/08
Posted: Fri Nov 21, 2008 9:53 pm
So, I'm posting this early, since I'm not sure exactly when I'll wake up tomorrow morning. I have a feeling I'll be sleeping rather late.
Today's quiz is standard stuff. One point each for artist and title, and please try to use the most obvious artist if it's been covered. I won't dock for it, but it makes scoring easier. The game will remain open until Monday at noon EST. And in case you care, #5 is on my list of favorite songs (at least the version sung by the songwriter, hinthint), and #14 is one of the most annoying ever written.
1. Woke up this morning with a wine glass in my hand
Whose wine? What wine? Where the hell did I dine?
2. I went down Virginia seekin' shelter from the storm
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow
Five year plans and new deals
Wrapped in golden chains
And I wonder, still I wonder...
3. Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
Oh, when will they ever learn?
4. There's a calm surrender to the rush of the day
When the heat of the rolling world can be turned away
5. Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun?
6. His heart's beating like a drum
'Cause at last he's got this girl home
Relax, baby, now we are alone
7. You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today
8. I've studied your cartoons, radio, music, TV, movies, magazines
Richard said, "Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy"
A smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh
9. Up and down the puppy's hair
Fleas and ticks jump everywhere ('cause of original sin)
Down the hill fell Jack and Jill
And you came tumbling after ('cause of original sin)
10. Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, your gypsy heart
Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, and don't look back
Come on now, love, don't you look back!
11. There's a boy I know, he's the one I dream of
Looks into my eyes, takes me to the clouds above
Ooh, I lose control, can't seem to get enough
12. You told me you didn't love him
And you were gonna say goodbye
But if you really didn't mean it,
Why did you have to lie?
13. I thought I knew her well, I really couldn't tell
That she had another lover on her mind
You see, it felt so right when she held me tight
How could I be so blind?
14. Oh, I don't know why you're not there
I give you my love, but you don't care
So what is right and what is wrong
Gimme a sign
15. You try to avoid her, fate is in your hands
She's smiling, an invitation to the dance
Her heart is on the street, tu corazon es suyo
Now you're falling at her feet
