Lyrically Speaking Day 8 - 11/21/08

#1 Post by KillerTomato » Fri Nov 21, 2008 5:24 am

OK, so after a one-week vacation-related delay, LS returns for your enjoyment and brain-smacking pleasure. Same old, same old, folks: 1 point for each title and artist. Humor points given at my discretion. Today's game will close tomorrow at noon eastern time. I hope you get them all, but try especially to get my favorite of these, #4 (although #1 is close behind).

1. I got shit runnin' through my brains
So intense that I can't explain
All alone in my white-boy pain
Shake your booty while the band complains

2. Es war im 1780
Und es war in Wien
No plastic money anymore
Die Banken gegen ihn

3. His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was Magil, and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy

4. But the bedouin they brought out the electric camel drum
The local guitar picker got his guitar-pickin' thumb

5. Here come the dancers, one by one
Your mama's callin' but you're havin' fun
You find you're dancin' on that Number 9 cloud
Put your head together and sing it out loud

6. The fields of Eden are full of trash
And if we beg and we borrow and steal, we'll never get it back
People are hungry, they crowd around
And the city gets bigger as the country comes begging to town

7. Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact, it's cold as hell

8. Touching you so warm and tender
Lord, I feel such a sweet surrender
Beautiful is the dream that makes you mine

9. Put your glad rags on
And join me hon
We'll have some fun
When the clock strikes one

10. There was a group called The Jokers
They were layin' it down
Don'tcha know I'm never
Gonna lose that funky sound
There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

You find you're dancin' on that Number 9 cloud
Put your head together and sing it out loud

Spoiler
1. from the early days of KC and the Sunshine Band, before they got the lyrics to "Shake your booty" the way they wanted them
2. an early version of Zink Ze Bizmark, by Johann Hörton
3. sounds a bit like Rocky Raccoon by the Beatles, no it can't be, wait, it is! Final answer.
4. the would-be movie theme that was rejected by the producers of Lawrence of Arabia, by Ray Stevens
5. (it's all part of my) Rock and Roll Fantasy, _________
6. Almost Amish Paradise After Ramspring, by Mack Truck and the Exhaust Fumes
7. Rocket Man, Elton John
8. Beautiful Dreamer, by that guy on Bonanza who broke all the windows in town when he sang, anyone else remember that one?
9. I'd change her glad rags into sad rags, if I could ...
10. The Jokers Went Wild, Bryan Hyland and the First Edition

Theme: songs that needed a lot of reworking before I could recognize them
Aside to KT
Sorry about poking fun at #4 and #1, since you like them so well. But not too sorry :?

Spoiler
1. Nope
2. Rock Me, Amadeus? - Falco, if it is
3. Rocky Racoon - The Beatles (isn't actually the Ballad of Rocky Racoon, or am I thinking of something else?)
4. Rock the Casbah - The Clash (although I DO love the "misheard lyrics" site where someone thought this was Rock the Catbox)
5. Rock and Roll Fantasy -- OMG! Who did this? I am drawing blank.
6. It reminds me of Electric Avenue. Except it's not. And that wouldn't fit the theme, anyway.
7. Rocket Man - Elton John
8. Rock Me Gently - Andy Kim (I am SO ashamed)
9. Rock Around the Clock - Bill Haley & the Comets*
10. Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo -- Rick Derringer? The Derringer Brothers? Johnny Winter?
* A couple of years ago, I saw the act in #9 perform.
Spoiler
They completely rocked, especially for guys in their 70s and 80s. They did this big bang-up Vegas-style show and brought the house down.

Editing to add, of course, that Bill Haley himself had passed years ago. But all the Comets are still alive or were at that time.

While you're at it, look up One Night in Bangkok as well. Because that one has to be coming soon.

3.) Rocky Racoon The Beatles, 4.) Rock The Casbah The Clash, 5.) Rock & Roll Fantasy Bad Company?, 7.) Rocket Man Elton John, 9.) Rock Around The Clock Bill Haley & The Comets, 10.) Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo Rick Deringer. I almost thought this was Sultans Of Swing for a minute, until I figured out the theme of today's songs. I'll be very disappointed if one of the ones I didn't get is Rock Me Gently by Andy Kim.
