Obese people on airplanes

#1 Post by bazodee » Thu Nov 20, 2008 12:38 pm

From Reuters:

Obese people have the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday.

The high court declined to hear an appeal by Canadian airlines of a decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency that people who are "functionally disabled by obesity" deserve to have two seats for one fare.

The airlines had lost an appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal in May and had sought to launch a fresh appeal at the Supreme Court. The court's decision not to hear a new appeal means the one-person-one-fare policy stands.

The appeal had been launched by Air Canada

I have very strong opinions on this that will no doubt get me in trouble...so I cannot comment on how I feel about this.

I would rather have someone get two seats for the price of one, than have the airlines charge me the going rate for my one seat, then give half of it away without my consent to the person sitting next to me.

You can have a second seat for free, Mr. Bastard, but you'll have to pay for the cost of the extra fuel we'll need to lift your fat ass up....

And could you please put on a bra.....

Dammit. I'm missing out on my free seat.

I'm 6'5" which means to be obese (by BMI standards) I just have to weigh 253 pounds.

I guess I could gain a few pounds before every flight.

And y'all can have that armrest. My elbows don't really drop low enough to use it anyway. I just want a headrest that comes anywhere near my head.

"Lean back and enjoy the flight" Hah! I say. If I lean back I'm staring at the ceiling of the plane.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I just wish I could have a few extra pounds of luggage, seeing as I am contributing less to the weight of the plane and fuel usage!

I'll vote for that. And legroom!

Of course, if you get a window seat, you can rest your head sideways against the wall. That's real comfortable for trying to take a nap!
