And after another 24 hours locked in tin cans with several hundred of my closest non-friends I am back in the States again.

Somehow I seemed to have managed to escape both ways without catching a cold, so far, which is a minor miracle in itself.

Seems everybody in Africa is delighted with the election results. Big surprise, eh? Given how well most (all?) of Africa is run that should bode well for us...

Oh, and anybody who wants to see pictures of lions disemboweling and consuming what is left of a baby elephant with great enthusiasum just let me know. I've got loads of 'em!

Been thinking of you a lot lately, wondering how your Africa trip was going and also wanting you to comisserate with me, lol.

I have been diagnosed with narrow angle glaucoma which had me scared to death. My last trip to the eye surgeon relieved my mind somewhat. Seems I have a whopper of a cataract on my left eye and it's pressing against the eye which is causing the narrow angle, it's a relief to know that the tubes aren't involved. That's what they told me to begin with, had me really scared.

Their going to remove the cataract and laser the hole to relief pressure, just waiting for the surgy center to schedule all her patients at the same time group, can't wait till it's over.

Cataract development is a relatively common cause for development of a narrow angle. My father had a similar issue. The laser peripheral iridectomy or PI should reduce the risk of an acute attack and the cataract surgery should further reduce the likelihood of a glaucoma attack. Or perhaps they are planning a laser trabeculoplasty? But this is typically more for open angle glaucoma.

Doing a trabeculectomy or a shunt (the tube) is no picnic so you definitely want to avoid that if possible.

An acute angle closure glaucoma attack can be a bitch so it is good you are getting it taken care of!
