Sad news about Deb

#1 Post by Bixby17 » Wed Nov 19, 2008 7:47 pm

As many of you know, my sister Deb was in remission from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia after receiving a stem cell transplant in February 2006. Unfortunately we received news this afternoon that she has relapsed. Figured you guys would want to know. I do not have any information from the doctor if it is the same form of leukemia or something different.

She is in the hospital ER now in Houston receiving platelets. It sounds like she will be receiving more treatment and another stem cell transplant. She is frightened and determined. She suspected that she had relapsed so this isn't a complete shock.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. You can give her some support by leaving a message in her blog comments at http://www.debutaunt.com .

I wish I had come back here with something fun to say. That's always a much better deal.

I had hoped never to hear this, but I know Deb can fight back again. My best wishes and prayers go to everybody -- Zoe, you and your other sisters and brothers, your parents, and -- most of all -- to Deb.

I am sorry to hear this - I have a colleague in Nashville who is fighting a similar battle. He recently spent 4 weeks in Houston at Anderson getting treatment - they've identified a great match for him, but he needs to get into remission before they can do a transplant - they will both be in my thoughts.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
