Mock Trial

Maddie had her first match tonight. The Freshmen and Sophomores are on the "Hawk" team and the Juniors and Seniors are the "Gold" team. The "Gold" team, by the way, was being judged by RJS tonight. Maddie's school is the defending Orange County Champions.

Maddie is doing Pre-Trial for the Hawk Defense this year. Maddie came home very happy tonight. The scorers told her that her Pre-Trial was exquisite and they also told her that she should go to law school. Since Pre-Trial scores are worth triple regular scores, she felt some pressure going into the trial, but she really enjoyed arguing the case. She prefers working for the defense because she's into "peace, love and flowers" and prefers defending people to proving them guilty.

She's pretty sure that her team won the match, but won't know until tomorrow morning.

As a parent I am happy that she is so happy. Since she is having so much fun on Mock Trial and isn't having fun in Drama, she's decided to concentrate on Mock Trial next year, rather than spreading herself between Theatre and Mock Trial.

Hoping the results are in her teams favor.

2 hours, 31 minutes.

I think that the judge actually determines the outcome of the case, but I am not sure.

wish they did something like that here.

I sometimes refer to Big J, as a lawyer in waiting. He can argue about the most miniscule items of anything, and actually make good arguments about it.

Good for Maddie

My kids are inveterate negotiators. I just squash all their little arguments with the big fat non-negotiable NO. Dad is one of those "we'll see" or "go ask your mom" types. I guess I got tired of having my eardrums battered sooner than he has.

Both the Hawk and Gold teams won their games. Usually the Hawk team is fodder for other schools, so the kids on the team are very happy about their win.

Congrats to Maddie and teammates! I think she would make a great lawyer in the "real world" as well.
