When you are doing your holiday cards, please think about sending one to the following:
A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington , D.C. 20307-5001

That is a really great idea...do you think if I sent a bundle of a few (maybe inside a larger envelope) that they would distribute them to multiple people? That would be a good use for the 5 or 6 leftover cards and stamps I always seem to have, no matter how long the list gets!

It wasn't my idea, a friend sent me an email about it and I thought it was a good idea.
If anyone has family serving in the military and posts an address, I will send them a card as well.

I could get it up to do cards for this purpose.

This is a great idea - thanks for posting it. I'll see if I can't get it out in our church bulletin or monthly newsletter. It won't hurt to spread this to 2500 more people, right?

They had shut that down during the anthrax days. Is it up and running again?

Ok, I just checked Snopes.
There is an article about this on Snopes.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/christma ... rcards.asp
Mail directed to:
A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington , D.C. 20307-5001
Will not be delivered. Instead send cards to
Holiday Mail for Heroes
PO Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456
Here is a web site about it:
http://www.redcross.org/email/saf/
Red Cross volunteers will look through the cards to make sure that they are appropriate. Apparently people were sending mean letters to soldiers, which is so wrong.

If you send a batch of them, leave them unsealed. It'll be easier for the reviewers and will look nicer once received.
