WWTBAM Bored

As many of you know, I voted for McCain. I would do it again if the election were tomorrow. However, after watching Obama on 60 Minutes last night, I am for the first time excited about the prospect of his Presidency. He and Michelle were an absolute delight. I can remember watching Clinton on 60 Minutes after his election (or maybe before, but around that time) and he made my stomach queasy. Obama does the opposite. I wish him nothing but the best. I'm sure I'll disagree strongly with his policies as we go forward (and my opinion of him may change substantially), but for now, he has my support.

My non-political but "anti-Obama on 60 minutes" sentiment is...

Damn 60 minutes for always running over and ruining the Amazing Race!!! And damn me for forgetting to set the dvr to also tape the show after...

Nothing against Obama, I was just less than ecstactic to see him and Michelle where I expected to see psycho couples racing around the world...I only lost 20 minutes, but still...it means I don't see the last 20 minutes of the show!!

You shouldn't blame 60 Minutes here. That show fits in its hour time frame (as advertised). It's the football games that push 60 Minutes back which pushes The Amazing Race back.

Ugh...I did that last season and keep forgetting to do it, until I see that I missed half the show...but then I get caught up watching it and forget again! I will have to do it when I get home. And watch the rest of the show, thanks for the info!

That's true, I just blame what I see when I hit play...which is 60 minutes. I know it's not their fault. I wish my DVR was smart enough to know when the show actually starts, as opposed to when it's scheduled to start. See, now I'm mad at Comcast too!! (anything to deflect responsibility from myself for failing to record the extra hour )

Don't blame 60 Minutes - blame the NFL, or rather blame CBS for having two games on Sunday, each scheduled for three hours when everyone knows that's bogus.

Since CBS has the double header every other Sunday I just set my DVR to record Amazing Race an extra 60 minutes every week. Of course if you have other shows you record on Sunday night this might not work.

Blame the Jets. If they lost like they were supposed to, then no one would have cared that the last minutes of the game were not shown so the world could see Heidi. Now no show is safe if a football game airs sometime before it.

CBS has quite successfully used NFL football overruns as a marketing ploy for many years. The theory is that people who either watch football or make a point to tune into one of the CBS shows will be more likely to stay on CBS the whole evening rather than switch to another network and miss the first 20-30 minutes of a show. This is one reason CBS has done so well on Sunday nights.

The tactic hasn't been as effective since NBC got Sunday night football and the games start at 8:15 or so. People don't mind watching 60 Minutes and then switching over to Sunday Night Football and missing the first couple of minutes of play.

In the last couple of years, a lot of shows have staggered their starting times, beginning at 10:01 or 10:02 instead of 10:00, so that if people watch the entirety of one show, they can't switch (live or by recording) to another network without missing something.

He wants to kill the BCS and create a playoff. Even though I'm not into college football, that right there lets me know that our country is in the right hands.

mrsgtg and I had the same reaction - he just has a calming effect - like he is in control and won't be frazzled.

We'll see what happens when the issues are real.

Sprots - I gotta tell you, my reaction was not that far from Jeemie's - the Obama stuff didn't tickle me, but the "Biden at his best" line was a bit much, IMO.

I don't have as much faith in him as I do in Obama - he's gotta be better than the current VEEP - but I hope events never conspire that we need him at this best.

Seriously -- I have no interest in TAR, but I love both Cold Case and Desperate Housewives. For some reason, I prefer to watch DH in real time and record CC for later. I just keep it set for 9 to 11 PM on Sunday nights, even though right at the moment all the 10PM shows bore me silly (now, if CBS were to bring back Dexter I guess I'd be up pretty late on Sundays!)

I didn't think you were directing anything at me - at sprots - not at me.

The interesting thing is, I find most people assume things about my positions based on one thing - that I am totally, unwaveringly, pro-choice. For me, it is just one of my many positions/opinions. I really do think for myself, am not a knee-jerk liberal, even if my heart does bleed sometimes.

Oh - I also think being opposites is as unthinking as always agreeing.

I would have taken it as this as well, if not for the Biden comment.

I took it the way I took it (as hyperbole) because of how Sports in the past has expressed such faith that Obama will be able to deliver "the change we need"...when to me he's just another politician that will muddle along, most likely messing up more things than he gets right.

I'm not gonna change the Biden comment because that wouldn't be fair to everybody who replied. We would see a public face of calm self-assuredness which in turn would reassure us. It was not meant as a comment on his ability to handle a crisis or anything else, only his ability to actually make a speech and answer a few questions without a cringeworthy statement or two. There is no doubt in my mind that in an Obama administration, a full team would be working behind the scenes in fast and furious mode on any unusual or dangerous situation, and that the best person for the job would be the face of it.
