We are sooooo tired

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Sun Nov 16, 2008 2:49 pm

Big J and I spent all day yesterday at my mom and dad's. They are both suffering from leg/knee issues, and had several things they insisted had to be done.

These included moving all the deck and yard pots of flowers to a covered alcove for the winter, raking the upper garden and the lower orchard area, hauling all the lawn Xmas decorations out from the crawl space, and spreading winter mulch on her wee garden plot.

Between the two of us, we managed to get almost all of it done, with the mulch not happening. Dad is 81, and Mom 75, and this is the first time they have not felt capable of doing this themselves. Dad especially has found the last year to be one where his physical abilities have declined, and he just hates it.

We came home and had hot showers and were in bed muchly early. Slept until 11 am today.

That's a lot of work! If James stuck with you the whole time, he
deserves extra stars this week. I know it means a lot to your parents to be able to
have it done. Maybe next time it can be a project for James and some of his friends.
A good way to introduce them to helping their elders.

Steve's grandparents lived in Queens and had one of those tiny little yards that was easy to care for, and a garden full of tomato plants. After a while he had a guy come mow his lawn for him. Then one year he couldn't even get the plants in, and the lawn guy noticed they were gone and put some in for him!

It's good what you did for them.
Knowing a great deal is not the same as being smart; intelligence is not information alone but also judgment, the manner in which information is collected and used.
