But mostly good.
The rink was closed to night which meant I couldn't go for my Saturday night skating.
However I did finally order new skates (that are in my college student price range)

So now I'm ready to go skating when Kay comes!
Right Kay?

I've never ice skated. The nearest ice skating rink is 60 miles
way. Besides that, klutz is my middle name.

It's not as tough as you might think. If I lived closer, I'd teach you. I haven't been on the ice since my last injury, but that was from trying to do a jump that I'm too old and out of shape to do, not from basic skating!

Erin keeps wanting to go "skaping" and glides around the living room in just her socks. Mom has never been ice skating, and hates cold anyway. Dad grew up skating and the only time he ever broke a bone was playing hockey, so I think it'll be daddy's job to take the princess to the rink.
I think she just wants a sport that has a dress as a uniform. I'll turn her on to field hockey like my niece......

Having looked at your photos from the Black and White Ball, I decree that you are neither old enough nor out of shape enough to have failed to complete that jump properly. Obviously, there was something wrong with the ice!
Let's blame the Zamboni.

Yeah! Blame the Zamboni!!! Or my ipod...maybe the beat of the song I was listening to threw me off! All I know is I ended up skidding face first, a significant distance down the ice, resulting in a torn rotator cuff that took a couple months to fully heal. I haven't been on the ice since!!
(And by old and out of shape, I mean I'm not 15 and 90 pounds...the ideal conditions for skating!! The older/taller/bigger you get it's just harder!)

Skating IS easy. I don't recommend a double axel just yet, that's all.
Have you ever rollerbladed? When I teach kids, if they're above the age to use double blades, it is usually easier if they have used rollerblades before because it is similar balance, it's just ice instead of pavement or whatever. But at least the ice is flat!!

You ever skated at an outdoor rink? We have several up here that you could try.

The one at Uconn when I went there was called outdoor, but it did have a roof, it just had open walls so it was very very cold in the winter and only open when it was cold enough for the ice to stay frozen. Everything else here is completely indoor, other than lakes and ponds. I learned on lakes and ponds, it's just a lot harder to try to do stuff with the uneven surfaces...but when you get to a rink it makes it a lot easier to stay on your feet!!!

Yep, this thread has sure convinced me to try ice skating for the very
time in with a young, athletic fellow in Bryant Park in NYC in front of God knows how
many other people.
LB would probably pay Clem to have a video camera with him.

I was thinking more along the lines of Kiki. Besides the alliteration, there are the obvious similarities between BoB and Kiki de Montparnasse.
Whenever I think about kayrharris, I naturally think of Kiki de Montparnasse. Don't you?

Oh, please, Kiki, enough with the blushing. You know you're flattered!
