New rescue kitten, old cat NOT happy!

We brought a 6-7 month old rescue kitten home today, Jude.
Kitty (original, eh?), our existing cat (2.5 years old) is not happy. Kitty has been the most cat-like of cats, aloof, distant, disinterested in us. Suddnly, Kitty is one p1ssed off cat.
Should be an interesting transition.
Hope our curtains and furniture make it...

None of my cats were every happy about new kittens. We kept them separated for about a week before we allowed them to be around each other. It gave the older cats time to get used to the fact that there was a new addition.

It reminds them that they can be replaced.

yeh, four new kittens this year, now all >1 yr. One was sickly and passed. Three are still with us, along with the magnificent Orbit, 8yrs, best orange tabby ever (Forget Morris...). Of the new ones, the beautifully faced Misou not so smart with the social cues, thought she had to establish superiority to be safe. She now gets chased down to the basement by Orbit every couple of days, and she has learned (mostly) not to growl. Still gets a D for plays with others, though.
Orbit likes and has played and groomed the the other kittens since they came, and tolerated Misou's posturing for a couple of months, till it became too annoying.

Why I think Kitty is perfectly fine name for a cat. Our 11 year old Kitty
would tell you the same.

I call Sister #4's black cat "Kit-tay".
The guinea pig we had in the 90's was called "Piggie"
We once named a pet turtle "I Don't Know"....
Then there were all those strange names we gave Fluffy's multitude of kittens.....

When I was a child (starting as an infant--I had no say in the matter) Kitty was a perfectly fine name for our dachshund.

There is a greyhound at Hemopet named Doggie.
There is another greyhound named Kitty. Kitty loves to eat poo, so she they keep a guard muzzle on her whenever she goes to the dog runs.

Congratulations on the new arrival!
And thanks for doing a kittycat rescue. The first cat we ever had was a rescue -- the next door neighbors moved away and left the cat.
Good luck -- I too hope all the furnishings come through intact.
