Today is a bad day with more brush fires and Santa Ana winds causing huge problems in multiple areas.

The latest area endangered is in the OC.
Since there has been no posting by PSM in a while, I hope they are not at risk. TV is showing many homes in nearby areas that probably will be lost.

I'm glad you posted this. I've been watching and it's like armageddon. Are you guys okay? Anybody else in the vicinity?

I always worry about my southern Cal friends when I see news of the
fires. It's so hard to tell exactly where they are, so I just worry about all of you.

Dang it, I hit submit before I meant to. Anyway, I do hope everyone
is OK. Keep us posted.

There are two fires right now, one in Brea and one in Yorba Linda. Placentia is next to both of these cities.

Maddie and I went to Hemopet to volunteer this morning.
We took out two groups of dogs to their runs to go potty.
After the first group, my eyes started watering. I don't have allergies, but both Maddie and I took some Claritin, which we keep in the car for Emma. I could tell that there was a fire somewhere, but I didn't know where it was, since the sky was so blue.

As we took the second group back inside, the sky started getting dark. I couldn't tell where the smoke was coming from.
Hemopet is in Garden Grove, a flat around about twenty five minutes away from my house.

We muzzled up the third group of dogs and tried to take them outside. We could tell, going through the door, that it was raining ash, so we quickly put them inside.

For the rest of the day we took took the dogs on indoor potty runs. All of the doors to the kennel areas were kept closed, so that the dogs didn't have to breathe the crap in the air.

While Maddie was cleaning out cages, I went to the cuddle room with Julie. There was a radio playing and I heard the announcer talk about fires in Yorba Linda and Brea, so I called Emma.

Emma and Jeff had just gotten home from picking up a music book for her and she said that the sky was almost black. Zap didn't like going outside to go potty, but he did and then quickly came back into the house.

At 1:30, Maddie and I left Hemopet. My car automatically turned on the lights because the sky was dark.
On the freeway, which is elevated, we could see that the sky was beautiful and blue near the beach, but we could see the smoke from both the Brea and Yorba Linda fires. The 57 Freeway, which runs by my house, is closed at Lambert Street , which is two exits after the exit I take to get home.

The air quality is horrible by my house. Jeff and Emma closed all of the windows, because outside it smells like a giant fire pit, even inside, it smells pretty bad. Breathing the air outside for two minutes, hurt my lungs. There is ash everywhere! The winds have died down a bit though, so hopefully the fire will be contained soon.

Does your community have any sort of emergency operations plan? Not that they ever work out as they're meant to, but, are there evacuation procedures?

I have no clue. We still have AT&T, and I signed up with the city of Placentia, so we should get a reverse 911.
Jeff just left for work.
I was thinking that if I had to evacuate it would be fun. We have three cats, two kids, one dog, and one rabbit. Jeff said to leave the rabbit behind, but I couldn't do that.

I was trying to figure out if you were working on a gus. The time of
your posts wouldn't indicate that.

I'm glad you all are OK and I do hope the winds die down very soon.

I just saw that they had to evacuate the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar due to another fire.

Jeff's Uncle Len is up there. There were told that they might have to evacuate, so they packed. He just called to see how we are doing, but I don't think that we will have to evacuate.

My friend Lori, who is closer to the fires, is packed up and ready to evacuate.
I filled up my car with gas and somebody told me that the fire was a lot closer than I though, at the intersection of Fairmont and Yorba Linda Blvd.
When I got home, I pulled down the animal carriers and suitcases off the garage shelving. We combined food for dogs, cats and rabbits and it's now in a bin. The girls know which suitcase is theirs and we talked abut what they would pack, how we would pack the car and what animals they will get. I called my MIL and I told her that she is part of my evacuation plan.

Have you stacked the photo albums on the rear floorboards? After kids and animals, that's the next item on my personal evacuation list.

Yes, the photo albums and computer will also be packed.
Esperanza High School, which is near my friend Lori, was just closed as an evacuation center because it's too close to the fire and smoke.

That a real "uh oh" moment. We'll be thinking good, calming thoughts for you.
