Lyrically Speaking Day 7 - 11/13/08
Today, it's more new stuff...but unlike Sunday's pop- and rap-fest, today's game showcases some relatively new ROCK AND ROLLLLL. One point each for title and artist. I'll say this much: in the case of #1, you have to be SPECIFIC about the artist. These have all been released in the last couple of years (and in some cases, much much more recently than that!). You might be surprised to find out that I find #5 below to be my favorite of this bunch (especially since the artist on #2 is one of my all-time favorites). The game is open until noon EST tomorrow.
1. My love's an ocean
You better not cross it
I've been the distance and I need some rest
2. I was tryin' to find my way home
But all I heard was a drone
Bouncin' off a satellite
Crushin' the last lone American night
3. One hot renegade
Old school rebel
A chance for the revelry
Jammin' up the agency
Shake it, take it, take it to the spot
4. 'Cause it would take a lot more hate than you
To stop the fascination
Even with an iron fist
Our baby got to rule the nation
But all I got is precious time
5. You look pretty in your fancy dress
But I detect unhappiness
You never speak so I have to guess
You're not free-ee-ee.....eeeeeeee
6. I wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight bodyguards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs
So I can eat my meals for free (I'll have the quesadilla, ha, ha!)
7. The bed I'm lyin' in is getting colder
Wish I never would've said it's over
And I can't pretend....I won't think about you when I'm older
8. I hit the bottle in the morning in the summertime
I quit my job 'cause it gets in the way
I find a party by the ocean, buy the cheapest wine
Tell my friends to come and waste the day
9. Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known (song title)
10. But now the current's only pulling me down
It's getting harder to breathe
It won't be too long and I will be going under
Can you save me from this?

Dammit, I knew that I knew #10, but it wouldn't come to me. And they just played it on VH1.
I guess it just wasn't my time. Ha!

I am going to have to pass today's quiz. I don't think I have listened to music radio (outside of the oldies station) in, like, 5-6 years. So, I have no clue as to what's being played.
Like baseball, I have really lost interest in what passes for music these days. I am more content to just dip into my music collection and make my own selections.

I was just thinking about you and the WMR this weekend. We were talking about how apparently the line "You PMS like a bitch" in the new Katy Perry song is perfectly suitable, but the word "pills" (among others) in this one is not.

I think "drugs" and "drug dealer" get blipped, but not pills. Too much Christmas muzak lately so I haven't heard it on there in a while....

I can't speak for WMR, but on Vh1 and the radio, the censored version had "drugs" "drug dealer" "pills" "assholes" and I think even "ass" blurred. I specifically remember "pills" because that one was the most ridiculous of all.

I know our radio station blips "assholes". I'm sure WMR takes that out too, but I'm usually too busy shaking my head over the censoring of drugs....
It's ironic that you can do stuff on TV now that you couldn't dream of doing 20-30 years ago, but music is the one thing that has gotten more and more censored. It still chafes me when the second verse of Money For Nothing gets blipped, even in the uberclassic video.....
