What a coincidence, I've been waiting for yours for several days now!
I think we'll both get the same result.
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

Moreso than you know. The only reason I saw your post in the first place is because I hadn't logged on yet.TheCalvinator24 wrote:oh, and your signature line is quite ironic now, too.WheresFanny wrote:TheCalvinator24 wrote:for my apology from Fanny

But still not quite as ironic as yours.

I can't even figure out what I did to earn the distinction of being Fanny's foe.

Fanny-
You're going a tad overboard, don't you think?

I could tell you if you really wanted to know, but I don't think it would change anything and I don't think you really care if you're on a foe list or not.TheCalvinator24 wrote:I can't even figure out what I did to earn the distinction of being Fanny's foe.
You would probably feel the need to rebut and defend yourself when that's really not necessary because it's not your duty to prove somebody's perception wrong or that you're not really like that. You are entitled to your persona just as much as I am entitled to my opinion of it.

Re: I'll Be Waiting Patiently
Okay, I was going to say this in the other thread as both Cal and HD profess to being ignorant as to one of the meanings of that phrase.Tocqueville3 wrote:Fanny-

But since you at least give the appearance of asking civilly instead of just being a harpy, I'll answer it here. And I'm answering honestly.
I think it's great that none of you obviously white people have been on the receiving end of racial slurs of that ilk. Not so obviously white people are probably more familiar with the meanings that some words or phrases have been given. I will admit to being especially sensitive to them because I have been on the receiving end of some of them. If any of you saw the picture I had up of my dad a few months ago, you might understand why.

Re: I'll Be Waiting Patiently
Thank you for posting your explanation, Fanny.
I can not recall your age, so I wonder if it is a "generational" thing, as I know that Cal and I are fairly close in age (within a couple years). Spending my entire life in Nebraska and Kansas, I know that I have led a more sheltered life than Cal.
I still do not see why you would think that Cal would post something that is meant to be a racial slur, but you are right that it is an issue between the two of you.
(I also am amazed if Cal made a foe list before I did. <g> )

I have most certainly been on the receiving end of a few slurs. So don't even think of pulling that crap with me. You know damn good and well that Cal did not mean "the jig is up" as being racial. You're just searching for something to get offended by and you're too proud to apologize. I can't even remember how many times I had dumb fools tell me "Hey, there's a penny on the ground." Or some other such crap. Get over it already. You're bigger than that.
Oops. There goes my civility.

Re: I'll Be Waiting Patiently
But sometimes you'll hear a slur where none was intended, like Billy Crystal said everytime he heard the phrase "Hollywood Elite" it just meant "Jew" to him. And I now will never use that phrase because he pointed that out. You can seethe in silence or bring it out in the open.Tocqueville3 wrote:Fanny,WheresFanny wrote:Okay, I was going to say this in the other thread as both Cal and HD profess to being ignorant as to one of the meanings of that phrase.Tocqueville3 wrote:Fanny-

My mom was raised in Nazi Germany, and she tolerated none of anything, even joking. Sometimes it just goes too far......

Re: I'll Be Waiting Patiently
Rather than trying to do quotes of separate posts, I'll just reply to both.
No, I truly did NOT know damn good and well that Cal didn't mean that as racial. Maybe it's regional, maybe it's the time period of my formative years, but, to me, that phrase is practically always used in the context of race. Yes, I know that is not the original etymology, but the original etymology of gay isn't homosexual, either.
I've already stated that I didn't call Cal a racist, I called the statement racist. As well as expressing my surprise. As for apologizing, in the thread in which it occurred, I said twice that I retracted the racial part when he stated that he really didn't know the racial implications of the phrase and substituted ignorant instead. Which, despite the general opinion of the word, is not originally derogatory in meaning, either.
And thanks for accepting my explanation and the realization that words and phrase and clauses and whatnot mean different things to different people.
