LS Day 4 Answers and Points

1. I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain

SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL - ROLLING STONES

2. Don't cry
Don't raise your eye
It's only teenage wasteland
(HINT: The name of this song is NOT "Teenage Wasteland"!)

BABA O'REILLY - THE WHO

3. You got a lot of nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down,
You just stood there grinnin'

POSITIVELY 4TH STREET - BOB DYLAN

4. (Song Title) all in my brain
Lately things just don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
'Scuse me while I kiss the sky

PURPLE HAZE - JIMI HENDRIX

5. So....so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rain?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

WISH YOU WERE HERE - PINK FLOYD

6. It's hard to believe that
There's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

UNDER THE BRIDGE - RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS

7. In the days of my youth
I was told what it means to be a man
Now I've reached that age
I've tried to do all those things the best I can
No matter how I try,
I find my way into the same old jam

GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES - LED ZEPPELIN

8. Take a load off Annie
Take a load for free
Take a load off Annie
And (and and) you put the load right on me

THE WEIGHT - THE BAND

Carmelo, I couldn't find anything on the Wilbury's covering this (they may be one of the few bands NOT to!). If you can PM me more info, I'll award you your point.

OK, a note about this. There are some songs that, when I put together a game, I don't bother to Google the RIGHT lyrics, and others that I accept just one source for. The remainder I check in a couple of places. This one, since I know it so well (it's one of the songs that my local album-oriented rock station plays WAAAAAY too often), I didn't bother to Google. I've ALWAYS heard the lyric as "Take a load off ANNIE," and that's what I'm sticking with, all other sources, links, and arguments to the contrary. The main reason (other than the fact that that's what it sounds like TO ME) is that my mom's name was Annie, and I think of her every time I hear this song. If you don't like it....well.....tough. :-)

9. I caught you knockin' at my cellar door
I love you baby, can I have some more?
Oooh, oooh, (part of the Song Title)

THE NEEDLE AND THE DAMAGE DONE - NEIL YOUNG

10. Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
40,000 men and women every day (like Romeo and Juliet)

(DON'T FEAR) THE REAPER - BLUE OYSTER CULT

The ones currently on my iPod are 1 (Sympathy for the Devil), 3 (Positively 4th Street), 7 (Good Times, Bad Times) and 9 (The Needle and the Damage Done). I have several others in my collection, but they aren't on my iPod right now.

Humor points to Carmelo and T_Bone

KT,

Did you count the following for 1?

3. You got a lot of nerve
To say you are my friend
When I was down,
You just stood there grinnin'

Lucinda Williams - Not My Song

LW did cover it, but I didn't know the title. I also got 2 of 4 of your iPod songs, so I think I should have gotten 21 for the day.

Ha I edited out of my ramblings that I was going to just pick my favourites, but I knew that would be wrong because you have this 'thing' for Neil Young. And then I couldn't bring myself to pick that one, anyway. Ha!

I didn't take you for a Zeppelin fan, though. So, I'm curious. Which of these songs did you already have and which (if any) did you purchase because of the recommendation? And how many did you say, "Screw you, genius, I ain't listening to that crap!"

Ah, no, I didn't catch her cover, sorry. I'll add your point.

Actually, I really don't have a "thing" for Young. I like a few of his songs, but I'm not what you'd call a big fan or anything. I do like "Needle and the Damage Done" a lot, though.

I'm a sorta Zep fan. I'm not as rabid as most Zeppies, but I've grown to appreciate some of their stuff just in the last couple of years. I do love "The Immigrant Song" and "Kashmir", but I'm not a huge fan of "Stairway to Heaven" or "D'yer Maker" or a lot of others.

And I haven't bought a single song based on the Genius recommendations. It's unlikely I ever will. Most of the time, I DO say "Screw you, Genius" to, at least from the iTunes side (which recommends stuff I don't already own). I use the Genius Playlist Maker on my iPhone a lot, though. It's amazing that it can even come up with a playlist for some of the stuff I own, but it does.
