A Solemn Remembrance Day.

#1 Post by etaoin22 » Tue Nov 11, 2008 8:28 am

In Britain the main ceremonial aspects are on the Sunday preceding, Remembrance Sunday, but Canada is old-fashioned enough to remember at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day. Mind you at EST, not GMT, but still.

If anyone has CBC or CBCNW on their cable, the broadcast from the War Memorial in Ottawa is both solemn and beautiful. (and they will do two hours from 10 to 12)

The continued death rate of the mission to Kandahar (up to nearly 100) will make today most solemn, especially as there will be respect shown to Silver Cross mothers or parents of at least one of our Afghanistan dead; previously, they were finding nonagenarian mums of WWII dead and sometimes Korea, and it was getting hard.
