Another Overused Football Phrase

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Mon Nov 10, 2008 5:05 pm

Whenever the quarterback throws a bad interception, the commentators always say, "I'm sure QB wishes he could do that one over" or its variation "I'm sure QB wishes he could have that throw back." This one comes up two or three times in every highlight reel. Is there ever an interception that the quarterback doesn't wish he could do over?

What gets me is the announcers who want to give every quarterback waay more credit for things that probably aren't really so. To me, it seems that at least 70% of the time that passes go astray, the announcers confidently announce that he was making a smart play by throwing the ball away to avoid a possible interception. Yeah, that does happen but sometimes these QBs are just trying to get it out of their hands before that fire-breathing 320 pound monster breaks him in half and he has little if any idea on where that ball is going to wind up.
