Was all it took to fill my tank up this morning..... and it was under the 1/4 mark!

Gas has finally hit $1.99 here. I felt the same way this morning as I did almost 7 years ago when gas briefly dipped below $1 a gallon, and I filled up at something like 98 cents/gal. I never figured I'd see it that low again, but sure enough.....

The only bit of bad news is it seems my trip odometer has finally bit the dust. I have been in the habit of resetting it every time I fill up for the entire 8 years I've had the car, but this time the numbers wouldn't move. And since it was only at 69 miles when it should've been at at least 200, it apparently went down a little over a week ago without me noticing......

Regular costs around $2.43 here. At the high of Gas Prices is cost $90 to fill up my Tahoe, now it's about $60. It's so strange.

Recessions and investment money sitting on the sidelines will do that.

It still cost me $40.00 to fill mine.

I am a bad girl and waited until the gas pump light thingie came on.

I almost always wait for the light to come on! And my car tells me how many miles to empty...the light comes on somewhere between 40 - 45 and I often get down to 10 - 12 before I fill it. I once got to 6 miles left and freaked out but made it to the nearest gas station okay.

We are still at 2.19 for regular here, at the lowest station I've seen. Most are still in the 2.20's and 2.30 for regular, for cash...credit is still more at most places.

I read recently that frequently letting your gas get that low may cause damage to your fuel pump or some such part.

We're at about $2.55 here.

That's what my dad tried to tell me for years.

My low gas light has come on once in 8 years....

The one time it did come on it scared the hell out of me. I didn't even know I had one.....

The reasoning is there is sediment that collects in the bottom of your gas tank, and you risk pulling into you fuel lines when the tank gets low enough to reach the sludgy gas. Of course, MY dad is the one who lets his tank get so low the light comes on like all the time. He drives a pig, though.

I ran outta gas once.

I was coming home from a bar at 3:30ish in the morning. I was 19 years old. I was living at home at the time. My dad woke up when I came in. I said "My car ran outta gas. It is in front of the Benn's house. We'll go get it in the morning."

He said "okay".

We did.

My car's low fuel light comes on when I've got about 30 miles or so until empty. My wife took it one day, started it up, and called me to say there was less than 1/4 tank. I told her not to worry, the low fuel light comes on when you've got 30 miles to go. She called me a couple of hours later to say she had run out of gas. The low fuel light was burned out.

And it really was my fault.

My sister had one of those gas gauges that was like a slot machine. No clue if you were winning or losing.

I have Mini-me. He gets antsy when we're below half a tank! And it's not like we've ever run out of gas with or without him in the car...

I have a low fuel indicator too. It's called my chauffer!

And he nearly went broke when petrol hit $4 a gallon.... tut tut!

Makes me nervous being under a 1/2 tank. I prefer calm.

Just spotted $2.41. Gettin' there...

I paid $1.79 last night. Now I see it for $1.69 down the street.

I saw the first 1.99 on Saturday the 8th. I filled up on the 30th at 2.29.

I don't know how much gas costs because my husband went out and filled up my Tahoe for me. Isn't that sweet!

Fuel gets pulled from the bottom of the tank. It has to. You will be pulling any sediment along with gas no matter what the level in the tank is. That's what fuel filters are there for.

I've heard some claim that the fuel pump needs to be surrounded by gas to help it keep cool. That makes no sense either, as the fuel pump is at the top of the tank, so as soon as the tank is not full, the pump is no longer surrounded by gas.

My Fords' fuel pumps have been at the bottom but certainly don't need to be surrounded by fuel.

Back in the old days, my cars had fuel pumps mounted on the engine. They had both inlet and outlet lines attached.

The last 3 Japanese cars I've had all had the fuel pump attached at the top of the gas tank. I figured they had to have an inlet line going to the bottom of the tank.

The point still is that fuel must be pulled from the lowest point of the tank. It doesn't make sense to have it any other way.
