Thus Speaketh the Skyhook...

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (the basketballer, not the ex-Dolphin!) writes:

I must say that Senator McCain's concession speech was entirely a class act. His references to the historical significance of tonight's events were right on. It was uplifting to hear those statements after such a hard fought campaign. Those sentiments from his side of the aisle will go along way in helping our nation find its voice and regain its stride again. The American electorate has really embraced the ideals of "Yes We Can."

In other news, McCain campaign official Steve Schmidt did make one good decision: He refused Gov. Sarah Palin's request to speak alongside Sen. McCain last night. Can you imagine how quickly and utterly that narcissist might have diminished McCain's graceful exit?

Probably not quite as quickly as you just diminished President-elect Obama's graceful victory.

Cal, how does complimenting a gracious loser diminish the victor?

Don't get that at all from the comments or quote.

Read o-man again and pay attention for the gratuitous swipe at Governor Palin.

If I were a strategist for the GOP right, I would probably be salivating at every comment like o-man's. Remember, Ted Stevens promised to bury Palin when she dared run for governor without his blessing. Now it looks like she will be replacing him in the Senate. Every day people denigrate Palin is a day closer to when she rises up & kicks them in the ass.

There hasn't been a Republican who could win as many style points ar Reagan, and with some Senate seasoning, she won't be the deer in the headlights who sat down with Katie Couric. More likely, she will have Couric for lunch.

Oh, I read that and got it but I guess I don't see how a comment by a BB about Sarah Palin diminishes Obama's victory. It might diminish the BB, but not the victor since Obama didn't say it.

We have lots of gratuitousness on this bored. You reallly should get used to that.

:D

It diminishes the gracefulness, not the victory.

Again, of the BB, but not of Obama.

I have to agree with Christie...correct me if I'm wrong, but none of these statements were said by Obama, and they have nothing to do with Obama or his campaign, correct???

So, the statements of surrogates (whether official or not) have no bearing?

Anything, and I mean anything that anyone who supported Obama says today that is a gratuitous swipe at McCain and/or Palin indicates a lack of graciousness. And it was especially ironic in a post that was attempting to be gracious.
