Millionaire dress code

#1 Post by Mustakrakish » Tue Nov 04, 2008 3:18 pm

Hello all. It's nice to enter the wacky world of this forum. Having been inspired by my friend (who shall be subsequently referred to as "Clem"), I will be auditioning for the Millionaire program this Thursday. My question - the ticket says DARK SOLID COLORS in obnoxiously bold and capital letters. Are dark blue jeans okay or do I need to wear black pants?

First person to answer can be my Phone-a-Friend.

(The above does not consitute a binding legal agreement, etc. etc.)

I'll answer but don't want to be aPaf.

All that is fine. They write the rules, but I saw an awful lot I would not have described as dark solid colors

You will not see your pants on tv, that pertains mostly to the shirt. If you watch a show, you'll see you basically see waist up unless the camera pans to a particular area. They just want the audience to blend into the background.

I'm sure you will get many phone a friend offers, however, I would not be able to be one of them due to my work schedule! But best of luck in your quest for the hot seat!

Yes, that's fine.

Do you want to know the big secret? The dress code only makes a difference if you hope to be seated in the first row, where there's a chance you'll be seen seated behind Meredith or the contestants. Dark, solid colors look best in the background to them. If you happen to show up in your loudest Hawaiian shirt, they'll just seat you in the back where you're never seen.

Wow. I didn't realize there was a dress code for the audience as well. They have one for my on-air companion, but I figured that was because they would be on-air.

I auditioned in Maryland, and I wore a bright yellow skirt to go with my sunny personality. If your jeans are nice and they make you feel comfortable, go for it. I'm going to be on the show on Thursday, so you might get to see me, depending on what session you'll be at.

Oh, you newbies who go straight to the Hot Seat without ever being in the audience! :P

If Mustakrakish is interested in how to dress to impress the producers during his audition, that's a completely different discussion!

Wear clothes that you look good in. They are going to take a head shot, so it's important that your shirt is a color that photographs well. When I auditioned, I was wearing a red sweater and dark brown cords.

Auditioning in Maryland is different from auditioning at a taping. They want you to conform with the rules, for taping purposes. Like Marley said, wear bright colors and end up in the back row. Will it impact the audition? Who knows! They might be irritated if you don't follow the rules or they might not care, if they like you. I can't guess on that one.

But in Maryland there were probably no rules about it, I'd guess, as with any road audition, there were no taping issues to worry about.

There are different staffers responsible for seating people in the audience. The producers who interview auditioners won't care that you didn't follow the dark colors rule. Impressing them with whatever makes you look good is more important.

I am an exceptionally cool and conventional fogie of a certain age.

I wondered how hubby and I rated the front row right behind the contestant - we both wore black shirts (with jeans).

And in what language does he spell Muskrat as "Mustakrakish" :?

I am merely of a certain age.

Thanks for the tips. As for Mustakrakish, it is, of course, a Metalocalypse reference.

Yes, I recognize that a lot of our newbies over the last year or so are youngsters. But many of us who have been Bored Buddies since the primetime Phone Game days are now "of a certain age". Even if we weren't, back then.

Maybe it'd be better to just warn our Finnish troll that we're a "diverse" crowd? 8)

So my friends and I all failed the test. I did see you, Rafferty Barnes, or at least a person who has the same name as your screen name. I would also like to express my disappointment at the fact that you have a boyfriend. That is all.

Mustakrakish,

My condolences on the non-pass. It happens to many. Also, you should be disappointed because Ms. Barnes doesn't have a boyfriend.

She's married.

Maybe she has both--you know what sort of chat topics get Meredith excited! :P
