I sit here catching up on threads at a gawd-awful time. I dont know what has happened lately, but I have NEVER been an insomniac or a narcolept.(sic-too early to look up spelling).
I get to sleep ok., then I awake from between 2-4am almost every night. I'll eventually get back to sleep, but it takes a while. I figure its a bit of dehydration, so I'll drink water. Then, if that doesn't work, I'll have a yogurt (figuring I'm low in calcium). Sometimes, I'll eat half a banana, figuring I'm a bit hypoglycemic. Sometimes, I'll go and check this bored. It's starting to scare me. It ain't fun going to work and trying to be the cat's meow when Im exhausted.
Just thinking out loud.
I hope everyone is great here. Dont sit much at a computer during the day, so I miss all the daytime fun! I can tell you that the big positive news in my life has been the soccer team I took over (under extreme personal duress) back in March. THIS is a story that could be screenwritten and produced for public consumption. A true story that trumps Hoosiers, the Bad News Bears and every other sports movie you've ever watched. (Maybe THATs why Im up at night...hmm).
Hope all is well (please respond so I know Im just not talking to myself here!

)

Sometimes you are just not tired.
That is what I tell myself when I do something similar to what you described.
It always works out for me.
Hope it does for you as well.

Well, you were a couple hours ago!
I hope you get over the insomnia, moonie. Perhaps a doctor's visit is in order, rather than self-treatment?

He is a doctor, silly.

IIRC, he is a chiropractor. This insomnia may require the expertise of a different kind of specialist.

I know you're exhausted at the end of the day after interrupted sleep, but maybe try staying up much later, even if you have to come here and chat with some
of us. We're there almost every night!
Usually keeps me up way later than I would like.
While you're awake, start writing about the soccer team. If the story is as good
as you say, you'll be happy you have a permanent record of it in years to come.
I know you believe in using herbal remedies, so how about trying some melatonin?
Hope something works for you soon. It is good to see you here, though.

Well, since I'm an expert on getting a good night's sleep........ha!
Have you tried to examine the cause of your waking up? Is it just because you're not sleepy, is it that your mind is constantly racing, or do you just wake up because you have to pee like a racehorse?
I find that relaxation tapes or yogic breathing helps me. Try isolating your breathing by inhaling through your left nostril and exhaling through your right one. This brings in calmness though your ida nadi and releases agitation through your pingala nadi. You can also try Nadi Shodhana, which alternates the nostrils and balances your prana.
I also have one of the Brethe air cleaning machines that I love. I don't know if it does anything for the air, but the blue-lit water sloshing around and the sound does a lot for me.
If you're just not sleepy, then just get up! People need less sleep as they (ahem) get older and you'd be amazed at what you can accomplish when it's still early and dark and peaceful.
Remember, you can't be the cat's meow the next day unless you're the cats pyjamas the night before! If all else fails, try the bee's knees instead.
I asked about the Logan thing like you suggested. You're very funny. Also, my sticky wicket is the L5, not 3.

This should cause an interesting conversation.
Can't wait.

I'm not trying to start a debate here, just saying that doctors in one specialty will consult with those in another when the situation calls for it.

I have done some Melatonin, with i believe inconsistent results. A patient got me some bottles of (get this-) Jamaican Ginger Beer. She swears it makes her zonk out. It tastes nice, and I have sat back and watched a game with it. Not a real solution.
i find that I play scenarios in my brain while Im awake laying there. Sort of 'rehearsing' for a meeting, a conversation Im going to have, or a conversation that I'll never have (with somebody who I'll never talk to again) and imagining how it would play out. (am I alone in this-- how embarrassing if so). Even HAPPY things get played over and over again. It's great, but not at 4am!
I will try doing the breathing thing that Fanny suggested. Sounds interesting.
