5th Grader thread

The 5th Grader web site has changed its message board so that you have to register before you can read it. Feh!

So this recap will be from memory only.

The first contestant was billed as the world's biggest Boston Celtics fan. Supplementing the 5th Graders was a visiting class of five Celtics cheerleaders. For all the help they gave him, they could have stayed home. :P

He walked with $100K, IIRC, after declining to guess in what decade Moby Dick was published.

The second contestant was Miss Plus America. I thought it was odd that they started her run with only five minutes left in the show; surely Jeff could have dragged out the first contestant's run for that much longer. But the reason for this became apparent when she flunked out on her first question, a True/False Math problem: The sum of the digits in 678 is 22?

Fifth Grader Bryce also answered "True" and couldn't save her. :|

You don't want to register for that site?

Despite being the prime mover of 5th Grader discussions on this Bored, I've never yet posted a comment on that site. If you've ever lurked there, you'd know most of those posters are about as bright as their contestants. :P

I could register, but the general principle of the change make me grumble.

Actually, I can believe that. His demographic is who I expect to still be watching.

There's entertainment value in a certain amount of blood-boiling.

You like the punishment.

There is a word for that.

Seems she did not remember what "sum" means. But Bryce should have been able to save her. Perhaps it's just me being cynical, but he did not seem too disappointed in himself. I thought I detected a devilish look on his face.

Though this wasn't directed at me, I'll answer pre-emptively: my wife, a former classroom teacher, likes the show as well as Jeff.

We record it and then play it back quickly. We record it, and then, play it back, quickly.

The masochist says 'Hurt me - I want to feel pain now!' The sadist responds with a simple 'No.'
