Why are the airlines screwing with my head?

A flight I booked for Thanksgiving several months ago is now $120.00 dollars cheaper if I came back 1 day earlier. Believe me, I would have, for the price. And $70.00 cheaper if I came back the day I am coming back.

On the other hand, at least the Christmas flights are suddenly around $200.00 dollars cheaper than they were when I booked the TG flight. I really was contemplating the much-cheaper 18-hour Amtrak ride instead, even though I got a very severe allergic thing the last 18 hour train ride I took. Hey, if I wait 'til November 29th, will the plane prices go down another $120.00 too?

I just don't have the guts to wait it out.

It's a no win situation. I think I saw where the airlines
are cutting back on the number of flights during the holidays, so they will
sell out faster than usual. Better not wait too long.

Its enough of a "win" for me if I book right now & don't have to take the very long train ride. Which both arrives at & returns from My Home Town, these days, in the middle of the night. Not that I don't love trains. Next time I just need to bring a portable ventilation system, or something. They don't ever let you open the windows.

I had to rebook a mid-December Southwest flight to origin: Philadelphia instead of Long Island. I now have $144 in "Ticketless funds" to apply to another flight even though my original booking was done in July. The fact that SW has no change fee helps as well. In my case I am flying between the Thanksgiving and Christmas peaks.

Because that's what they do.
