Is Lizbit too young to date?

I think so. I think this younger generation is growing up way too fast.

She came home from school tonight, all excited because a guy in her class invited her on a date -- to his house! Her classmate Remy invited Lizbit over for a play date. She says Remy, a chow mix, is one of the two dogs that she had the most fun with during her beginner Puppy Class, because the three of them were closest to the same size. I think the bad boys are always "fun." Even though my mom and his mom would be chaperones, I do not like this situation.

I would like your opinion, though. Am I being an old fogey, like Lizbit says? Does any actual play go on at a so-called "play date"?

Please advise.

Miss Annie, as long as there are moms around it should be OK.

Are you a little bit jealous? Maybe you can go, too.

My daughters aren't allowed to date until they are 16. Rather than dwelling on some stupid guy, I want them to figure out who they are before they become part of a couple.

I think that you are right to worry. The situation might be different if it was a group of friends, but given Lizbit's age, the idea of a one on one date, even with chaperones, is troubling.

Next thing you know, she's going to be wanting to wear make-up.

Yep, you definitely need to insist on going if this play date is for real.
Maybe you need to have a serious talk with your mom.

Dear AnnieCamaro: As the father of four two-footer boys, I can tell you that you are right to be concerned. Certainly an unsupervised play date would be inapprorpate for Lizbet at this stage, but the fact that you and your mom will be there means there is less chance that anything could go awry.

A play date is not a date. If moms are present it it not a date.

You do not play on a date. You do other things on dates.

Lizbet is too young for those other things.

Play dates are okay for her.
