A-Rod back to Yankees?

#1 Post by traininvain » Wed Nov 14, 2007 3:14 pm

Looks like A-Rod will be coming back to The Yankees. The Daily News said that A-Rod was talking to The Yankees (sans Scott Boras) about coming back to the team.

Just heard John Sterling (Yankees radio play-by-play man) say that it's pretty much a definite. Sterling's exact words were, "On a scale of 1 to 100, 101"

"sans Scott Boras?" That's interesting!

Wonder what lawsuit will be coming next?

Boras doesn't turn loose that easily, usually.

I was actually looking forward to the post-ARod Yanks. Great player, but too much of a distraction for a TEAM-oriented sport like baseball. Too much drama with him around.

The Yanks won with a lot of very good, but not superstar, players back in the late 90's. Roleplayers and team-oriented, hardnosed guys. I miss O'Neill, Tino, and Brosius.

I must admit, though, that I like the idea of A-Rod doing this without Satan..er, I mean Boras, although I half suspect Boras is behind it anyway ("The market isn't quite as lucrative as I thought it would be. We need to get the Yankees back. They've had it with me, so you should go to them on your own. It'll look like you're disgusted with me and regret the way things were handled. Then you can get that big payday after all. The fans will love you, and we'll..I mean you'll be even richer").

I thought that if A-Rod signed back last month when the Yankees had exclusive rights to him that Texas would still be on the hook for part of his salary which is one reason they gave him a deadline.

If that's not the case, why should the Yankees throw that money away?

And if A-Rod returns, will Andy Pettite decide to hang around another year?

Because A-Rod's gonna have to take a pay CUT to come back to the Yankees, though he would end up getting more guaranteed years....

Too bad the Yankees couldn't stick to what they said and not negotiate with A-Rod since he opted out.

The reports I heard todays indicated that he was looking at a $2.5million INCREASE. From $25Mil to $27.5Mil per season.

That $27.5Mil is down from the $30 Mil that he was seeking.

I think the Yankees are making a big mistake. They should let A-Rod go to some National League team and spend the money saved to acquire some good pitching. They have suffered in this area for several years and as long as they keep throwing money at sluggers it isn't going to get any better. And while we're on the subject I think they should let Rivera go as well and find another closer.

When I first posted that, I thought I had heard they were only going to offer him in the neighborhood of 22 million a year. I don't understand why they'd give him an overall INCREASE after A-Rod allowed Boras to take 67 million out of their pockets from Texas. I don't think George's sons are any better at decision making than their old man was....
