I generally don't "toot my own horn" as a husband, but I have to brag on myself a little - on Saturday I surprised elwing by inviting her to go to the movies to see "High School Musical 3". She really enjoyed the first two (maybe she's into her second childhood, because she's also a fan of the Hanna Montana show). So we went, and I splurged on the tickets for the "Director's Hall" theater, where they have reclining seats and ushers who take your snack and drink orders and deliver them to your seats. Not having seen either of the previous movies in the franchise I was afraid I'd be lost, but these aren't like, say, "Star Wars" or "LOTR". And true to its subtitle, "Senior Year", it was pretty much what I expected it would be about. All of that was of no consequence, however, to elwing's enjoyment, and she did enjoy it thoroughly.
Then that evening and Sunday afternoon our empty nest house filled up again as one of our boomerang children returned. Our third son and his wife have temporarily moved in with us because neither they nor elwing and I felt safe about them living where they were. My daughter-in-law was robbed once and mugged not too long after that, and some of the perpetrators or their friends still live in the area. So we've taken them in for a while.

My b-i-l put on the pop-up video version of HSM2 for his daughter (Demon Child) when we were at the beach house, and she wandered down to the bonfire my boys were making, leaving my b-i-l to watch the show. Which he did! Never once though to change the channel.

Ok this is mean.
My daughter was depressed for a bit, as teenagers sometimes are. We also know somebody her age who killed herself over something trivial. I told Maddie that if she killed herself that I would play the soundtrack to High School Musical at her funeral to punish her. She snapped out of it.

I heard Eric Idle on NPR a few weeks ago. He's just written an oratorio based on Life of Brian. He said that a lot of people request that "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" be played at their funeral. I'm thinking about making that request. It'll really piss off my wife, who hates Monty Python.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:Ok this is mean.
